Unfortunately we can't make it out of aluminum since the panel is an off the shelf item for us. We integrate the panel into an assembly to sell to the OEM.
Could a variac be used to lay the coil on the back of the panel and start out with it at full power and decrease it to zero and accomplish...
I'm looking for a way to degauss an LCD panel.
The issue is that either the material handling equipment for the panel or the stamping process has caused residual magnetism in the metal. For our product we have to pass a DO-160 magnetic effects test for compass deviation.
What would be the best...
Thanks for the input.
Looks like we are going to get the customer to pay for the extra work involved. I can see if it wasn't staggered both sides to get a full weld you could see stress concentration from the unsupported area under pressure.
With it staggered the full weld both sides it seems...
I'm designing a vessel with SA-240 304L and a SA-240 304L internal baffle.
I have the weld detail called out for a 3" on 6" pattern staggered both sides. Our customer would like it fully welded both sides. Is there any code reason why a 3" on 6" pattern both sides is not acceptable?
3" on 6"...
When writing a specification for a MSS type A stub end.
What is the correct specification that meets ASME code compliance?
The only specification I have been able to find is:
For example:
4" MSS Type A stub end Sch 40, Matl 304L, MSS-SP-43.
Shouldn't I also specify the SA number like...
I am designing a horizontal vessel with 2 saddle supports.
Vessel desinged using compress software.
The issue I am having is that I have a customer that would like the wear plate width to be less than what my software will allow based upon the saddle width.
If I narrow up my saddle width the...
We would like to have the pipe come in to our facility already welded with just one longtitudinal weld.
My understanding is that unless we can purchase the pipe to an existing approved ASME specification, it would have to be made from plate and either welded by us or another code shop with a...
I'm looking for a pipe specification to use for a pressure vessel. I need a 36" OD Carbon steel pipe, vessel wall depending on pipe specification will be between 3/8" and 1/2" thick.
Design Temperature 300F, Design Pressure 50 Psi.
MDMT -20F
We can fabricate our own vessel wall but we are...
I'm looking at a new design for a shell and tube heat exchanger.
Can anyone tell me how the assembly of the tubes into the tube sheets is normally done?
I know we are going to roll the tube ends to attach them to the tube sheet at each end. In this case the tube sheet is welded to the shell...
Can anyone shed some light on where the calculations for lap ring thickness are located?
I need to design a 36" lap joint flange connection for 304SS.
I found the sketch UW-13.5 for lethal service but i don't see where it is referenced anywhere.
I need to calculate the minimum ring thickness...
The tank is an above ground girder ring suppored vessel.
About 9ft in dia x 12 ft tall. The bottom has a nozzle centered in it. The top is flat plate with 4 beams across it for roof support and an Agitator.
Design Pressure: +/- 1.5 psi. The negative pressure is outside of API 620 rules.
The...
I'm starting to get involved heavily in the design of API 620/650 tanks.
A tank that we are designing has a F&D bottom that is unsupported. In reviewing the API code I'm not really finding anything that looks like a fit. In reviewing the E-tank software they use the ASME VIII Div 1 formulas...
I'm considering a clearance seat on this damper because my leakage percentage I need to hold isn't that great.
I found the following formula to check the leakage rate does it look correct?
Q = 636 x A(P x Delta P / Temp )^.5
Where:
Q = Flow Rate CFM
A = Area of gap in square inches
P = Inlet...
Does anyone know if you can calculate the dynamic torque required to operate a butterfly?
I'm designing my own butterfly valve for a special application in air handling.
It is about 96 inches in diameter and has about 40 inches of water column across the valve at closed state.
What is the...
I need some help in determing allowable stresses on a large vessel.
I have a large diameter vessel: 15'-0"
Wall Thickness: .1875 inches
Height: 12 feet
Atmoshpheric pressure outside and a vacuum inside of about 25 in water.
I know I'm way overkill on hoop stresses what I'm concerned about is...
