Vacuum Stiffener Interrupted By a Nozzle.

Dear JTE, Appreciate your prompt reply which is quite helpful. In fact the vendor has submitted FEA and we are evaluating it. I am checking to see if there is any direct reference to such a situation any where in Eng-Tips. Janaki.

Vacuum Stiffener Interrupted By a Nozzle.

We have a case where a vacuum ring got interrupted by a large integral nozzle / boot. Vessel diameter is 17' horizontal. Boot diameter is 8'. This obviously exceeds code allowed interruption. Is there a calculation method available to ensure the adequate moment of inertia provided by nozzle...

    Rapair without "R" Stamp

If a vacuum stiffener ring is interrupted by a nozzle on a cylindrical portion of vessel, how do we ensure that it has adequate moment of inertia to replace the cut ring? Is this allowed by code? J. R. Polani, Houston.

    UCS-66 impact test

UCS 66: I think I have answered my own question. Weld PQRs and Production test plates need to be impact tested for MDMTs below -20F for curve C & D materials unless their weld rods are prequalified by impact testimg down to -55F. For MDMTs below -55F, no more exemptions and impact testing is...

    UCS-66 impact test

My question is whether the code exempts impact testing of weld procedures if the base material is exempt thru -155F by virtue of UCS66.1?

    UCS-66 impact test

By UCS 66 b 3, impact testing for base material can be exempted or MDMT lowered, based ON Fig 66.1 to -155F. If the base metal is exempt by this or the MDMT lowered by this, does same provision apply to weld procedures, HAZ and pRODUCTION WELDS SAME AS THAT FOR BASE METAL?
