Boiler Building Risk Category, in ASCE 7-10

What do you guys think for the classification of the boiler building. I give it a II at the worst case. It is a tricky one. Let me know what you think. Thank you.

Bolt/threaded rod strengths differ for Grade 8.8 in BS 4190 and BS 5950

I thought about this and come up with this. I could install 2 anchor bolts, on the 8" vertical leg, shim up the 4" leg with shim plates. Then the contractor could inject epoxy grout or suitable grout under the 4" leg to fill the gaps. Those 2 rows of anchor bolts on the side would be able to...

Welding Anchor Bolts from the top, protruding through angle

Hello all. Is it okay to field weld anchor bolts protruding through holes? So I have a situation that required installing anchor bolts first, then field weld an unequal leg angle to the anchor bolts. Say I am using an unequal leg L4x8x1/2, with the long leg being vertical. I am installing 4...

    A354 bolts for steel connections

Hi All, I am trying to design a conneciton with 2" A354 Grade BC bolts. The reason being to allow for movement between two structures. I need to use a 2" bolt so I could use a longer slot to allow for movement. I have a 1 1/2" deflection in either direction so the slots have to be long enough...

ESAL for a typical asphalt paving

Sorry, I meant to say a crane every other day = 0.5*26.6 = 13.3 ESAL per day.

ESAL for a typical asphalt paving

Here is what the soil report says: "We did not perform any California Bearing Ratio tests on the surficial soils at the project site. However, based on our experience we recommend a CBR value of 6 to 8 for 8-inches of lime-fly ash stabilized sandy/silty clays overlying the fill soils. A higher...

ESAL for a typical asphalt paving

Mr. lha, the 8" base is crushed limestone course only, not bituminous. I used SpectraPave2 from Tensar Corporation, I did get SN of 3.02 but it is telling me that the allowable traffic load (ESAL's) is 122000. This does not agree with what was said. Could you guys help explain? Thanks very much.

ESAL for a typical asphalt paving

For a 3" thick asphalt wear course, over an 8" thick base, over an 8" thick sub-base; what is the ESAL loading for this flexible pavement? One geotech engineer say roughly 1,000,000 ESAL. I think that is too high. I have used a design software and came up with 122000 ESAL. Does this sound about...

Hi All, What is the design life of flexible asphalt paving in a refinery or chemical plant? Will ten years be sufficient? Thank you in advance.

Cover for a reinforced concrete pipe culvert

Hi all. I am specifying a 18" reinforced concrete pipe culvert under a road with HS 20 loading. The pipe is barely under the base and there is no sub-base. In other words, the pipe is right below the base, with minimum thickness above the top of pipe. Is there a requirement for a minimum "cover"...
