    Monguzzi controller / anyone familiar?

Service call today, to assist on machine at veneer mill. It's a MONGUZZI machine from Italy. It has MMI for operator to use ( limited as to interface options ). This communicates to ALCAN plc cabinet. Found some electrical issues, loose grounds, broken shield on servo controller. Still having...

    Electric Motor Clasification

    Electrical code book divides voltages as follows.....extra low ( 0 - 32 volts ), low ( 32 - 750 ), and high, ( above 750 ).

Vfd cable terminations / braiding, shielding, etc

Yes, once the guys stripped the larger feed cable which feeds the starter panel, this cable had a spiral copper wrap. This would be very difficult to install under a ground lug somehow, so a proper cable connector with a grounding gland would be definitely more suitable. Also, just for your...

Vfd cable terminations / braiding, shielding, etc

Voltage is 480v / 3 phase. Distance from mcc room to motor control panel is approx. 200', and then another 80 max. to each motor. Cabling is tray style cable ( no armour ), and # 12 / 3c. I believe its belden 29502. Its run in open tray, not conduit. Engineering spec'd out the cable, but we do...

Vfd cable terminations / braiding, shielding, etc

Currently doing a small industrial job, installing cabling for ( 20 ) 5 hp motors. There seems to be a wide opinion of how the vfd cables should be terminated....braiding, shielding, etc Any advice would be appreciated ,or any links as well. Thx.

Grounding on boat for load centre

Buddy is installing a 60 amp lighting panel ( load centre ) on a tug boat. 2 questions: 1 - He asked me how to ground everything, since the frame of the boat is used as ground for 24 volt DC in some cases. I said that on the tugs that I have worked on, 120V receptacles are mounted on the...

    Sparking Outlet from Lightening

I can see something like this happening once in a blue moon, but if this is a regular occurence.....yes, something is definitely wrong. With lightning, you can never predict how its going to act. Point in case, service call to check out residential lighting panel after lightning hit...

5 KA short circuit amps / symetrical

No offense taken. Will see what we can do to calculate the sccr with the engineering staff we have. Thanks!

5 KA short circuit amps / symetrical

No, I do not have anything from the manufacturer, other than what is posted on the door as mentioned in the first post.

5 KA short circuit amps / symetrical

I have contacted the manufacturer about any testing which may have been done. ( The only time I was involved in this, was when I was called over after the unit was delivered.) Im sure they will make a note of this in the future. Yes, I see what is missing now....HRC fuses can safely interrupt...

5 KA short circuit amps / symetrical

Received a call today from maintenance. They are going to be hooking up an convection heater. Rating is 55 FLA. On the front of the panel, it states " short circuit amps - 5KA - symetrical ". Inspector mentioned something to one of the maintenance personnel, that we may have to install a...

    Arc Flash protection

We actually had a rep. come in, from ABB today, for an arc flash summary he did for us. He did mention the above device. Apparently its a fibre optic cable, which is run throughout the area to be monitored. There is no clear plastic covering on it, so it has to be run in an area that protects...

    Loosing a phase of a 3-phase system

I do know that for 3 phase motors, if you pop a fuse, ( or lose a phase....same difference to the motor ) the motor may continue to run, providing its not loaded up. If its loaded up, it will trip eventually.

Relay on battery charging system / tugboat

Absolutley nothing more on the relay than the following. There are 4 wires...to for the coil....on A & B. Coil is 24 V DC. + is on " A ", and - on " B ". Wires are marked 1 & 4, which are normally open. 1 & 2 are NC, but 2 is not used. On the side of the relay , it states OFF --> -30...

Relay on battery charging system / tugboat

Guys....I " think " the relay we are looking for is the one that has no designation. Its marked voltmetrische, and LADER on the top. Does this make any sense ? I have been told that since the batteries have been charged up somewhat....the chattering has disappeared. Also, the alarm has been...

Relay on battery charging system / tugboat

Dont know if this makes a difference or helps. On the front of the battery charger panel...is the following: ECW ( Belgium ) 394078 ( must be the model or serial # ) Primary -> 380 volts.....2.2A Secondary...24 volts.....40 A
