Is lubrication necessary for polymer bushings?

Yes, do check with the supplier as to whether they recommend lubrication of the bushing. lubrication will depend on operating conditions and desired life. and if they do recommend, ensure you clarify exactly what lubricants are compatible. the last thing you want to find is the lubricant...

    Coating Question

chrome plating is a very hard brittle coating. although wear resistant, it too will flake off over time with repeated impacts. since the coating is so hard, it develops microcracks which propagate through rather quickly. although pretty, it requires copper or nickel prestrikes to get a...

    Phosphate degradation?

i've got an application that we're currently specifying both iron phosphate and zinc phosphate. the coating is being used on surge tanks to act as a primer on the outside of the tank, and as a mild corrosion preventer on the inside. the outside of the tank is powder coated for evironmental...

electroless nickel plating over welded mild steel?

as an update for everyone following this thread, the parts have been sectioned and a little more information obtained from the fabricator. the cracked weld was a result of 1. poor set up, a third spacer ring was created by the fabricator and not fully penetrated during welding 2. no preheat was...

electroless nickel plating over welded mild steel?

as for EN process conditions, the plating bath was at 165F and the rinse at around 100F. the parts were allowed to cool to room temperature after that. as for the welding, a standard was used that required the parts to be preheated only to 70F (note that i'm emailing from canada and shop...

electroless nickel plating over welded mild steel?

the small cracks noted were through the welds. hydrostatic pressure testing of the welded assembly prior to plating was done and passed. a second pressure test was done after plating and cracks through the welds were noted. as a result, the part failed. and simply due to the circumstances it...

electroless nickel plating over welded mild steel?

we've just welded up some mild steel flanges (1018/1020) to an A53 pipe, then electroless nickel plated the assembly. small cracks have been noted in the final piece and questions are arising as to whether it was the welding process that created the cracks, or the post-weld plating. has anyone...

    mixed reactions and corrosive environments?

thanks grumpus. at concentrations of only 50PPM though, would these reactions occur?

    Chromate or Phosphate??

can you zinc chromate mild steel? our local shops have only really done it on aluminum.

    4130 for wet CO2 and H2S service

the compatibility info i've got suggests typical polyester-epoxy powdercoating blends would be adequate for H2S environments. i'll chat with our vendors to determine if coating the inside is a possibility.

    4130 for wet CO2 and H2S service

hush, by polymer coating i'm assuming you mean a powder coat, or a polymer lining. i'm uncertain of how you'd line these as vessels. powdercoating the inside could be uneven and would require QA.

    mixed reactions and corrosive environments?

could anyone tell me of mixed reactions between CO2, H2, H2S and water that could create a corrosive environment in contact with mild steel? CO2 readily dissolves in H2O to make carbonic acid, at room temperature. does H2S dissolve to form sulfuric acid? at temperatures of around 60C and...

    4130 for wet CO2 and H2S service

just looking for material suggestions for a gaseous environment operating at 300PSI. it's currently about 50% CO2 and 50% H2 were processing, with only around 50PPM H2S. the gas stream is also humid, 100%RH. temperature is around 60C considering we're making pressure vessels out of the...

material suggestions for high CO2 and low H2S environments

just looking for material suggestions for a gaseous environment operating at 300PSI. it's currently about 50% CO2 and 50% H2 were processing, with only around 50PPM H2S. the gas stream is also humid, 100%RH. considering we're making pressure vessels out of the material, it must be...

    Chromate or Phosphate??

i'm looking at specifying a conversion coating on some mild steel vessels. currently, our supplier is using an iron phosphate as the 'primer' then is powdercoating the exterior, a common practice. the corrosion resistance is insufficient though, because after storing or operating these...

Corrosion Resistance of 410 and 4140

the data i've got for 410SS and vinegar says it's resistance up to 70F is good (in a concentration of 100%)gut the carbon steel is not so good at any concentration over 8%. as for the peroxide...carbon steels aren't recommended at any concentration at any temperature. the 410 is good up to...
