    A234 WPB "S or seamless"

I am revising a piping materials spec. that has A234 WPBS listed as the material for fittings. In the ASTM book (I only have '97) it states that you can specify a welded fitting by supplementing the letter "W" to the grade and marking symbol (A234 WPBW). The version of MSS SP-25 I...

Pressure rating for ANSI flanges and Pipe

DavidCR is correct on this matter. Further to mtk220's note concerning B31.3 factors, remember that the "minus" manf. mill tolerance changes to either 8 or 10 percent for 20" and greater. Please also remember the weld joint quality factor, E, is not simply 0.85 for welded pipe...

    Allowable stress of B7 stud

The gasket seating stress is 26,000 psi, but the gasket seating case is not our limiting factor, its the operating case. Using Appendix 2 formulas we are getting 27-28 ksi bolting stress (allowable 23,000). The Rigidity from Appendix S is J=0.4976 for operating and J=0.4110 for seating. The...

    SA-354 or SA-540 good for sub-sea?

Anyone have any experience with using SA-354 or SA-540 bolts for subsea hydrocarbon P/L service? Would chloride stress cracking, cad plating, saltwater, or brittleness be an issue? We are looking for an alternative to a 193-B7 stud, we need 29-30 ksi allowable, 3 1/2" Dia.

High strength bolt material good for sub-sea service?

    Allowable stress of B7 stud

We have a Sec VII, Div 1, Appendix 2 designed flange. The allowable stress for the bolting material should be per Div. 1 Table UCS-23 (we are using a 3 1/2" B7 - 23,000 psi allowable). Can we use twice the allowable stress (46 ksi) per Sec VIII, Div. 2, Appendix 4, 4-141? Does this...

R101 ring good for CL 1500 service?

A 28" CL 1500 flange has been designed per ASME Sec. VIII, Div. 1, Appendix 2. Anyone know how it can be shown that a R101 28" ring joint gasket is good for 3705 psi? If it is not, how does one go about calculating the required dimensions to design their own? [flush2]
