    Designing a mechanical stopper

It looks like my supervisor didn't give me all the information. The stoppers are only going to be used if the gimbal loses power mid cycle and the mechanism they have in place to slow it down fails. Thank you again for all your help.

    Designing a mechanical stopper

The bounce back is something I will have to look into, didn't even think about that. I inherited this project so the entire gimbal design has been completed so I don't have many options or much information about the servos controlling the motion. I will have to raise some concerns about shock...

    Designing a mechanical stopper

Sorry I had to go to a meeting right before I drew the sketch. Ignore the hidden lines, thats a second axis point of rotation. We have a lens in there that rotates in the Z axis. The x axis is inline with the paper. The bottom sketch is a cross section of the left hand view.

    Designing a mechanical stopper

Here is a rough sketch. I included the intended stopper design. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=6f4ca5f7-6b8c-4464-a601-bbb9665be9e5&file=gimbal.pdf

    Designing a mechanical stopper

I need to design a mechanical stopper with a spring feature but before I do this I need to caculate the force for which a gimbal will strike it. The gimbal is cylindrical in shape and not uniform in shape and rotates about the x axis, its long side. Rotates 120 degress in a 1/4 second and the...

    Pressure differential

Sorry uploaded the wrong file!!! http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=ee3885a6-8acb-479f-a532-561eecfff776&file=lense.pdf

    Pressure differential

Bob, Here is a sketch of my lense. Its pretty close except for the lip. I have a feeling your equation will work.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=613a4c81-1128-4a11-8265-b87b0540d72c&file=AATDRSTech1119081.pdf

    Pressure differential

I will verfiy the internal pressure with my supervisor but is the rest of my reasoning correct?

    Pressure differential

Thank for everyone's responses. I am not designing this unit, I am simply trying to figure out what type of expoxy to use on a current design since the original expoxy is failing. From what I am told, the internal pressure of the lense is ~15PSI and at 40,000 ft I am using external pressure...

    Pressure differential

Thank you for the quick responses. I think I might have asked the question incorrectly. I determined the outside pressure at 40,000 ft to be ~2.72PSI.What I am needing to calculate is the internal force acting on the lense at that altitude.

    Pressure differential

I am a fairly new engineer, recently graduated. I have been given a pressure vessel problem and I need some help. We have a dome shaped lens with a small lip which gives us a certain surface area to which we apply the adhesive. Currently the adhesive has been failing at 40,000 ft. I need to find...
