    Best Pipeline Book

I am a civil engineer and have never been exposed to much in depth water pipeline design. What would be the best book or method to become an expert in this field. I am looking to know all about piping types, fittings, hydraulic design, restraint types and design, backflow and PRV valve design...

    Acidity of Rock Backfill

In my experience that testing is not normally done. You will get a proctor from the quarry but that's it.

    Acidity of Rock Backfill

I was recently asked what provisions are being made for the acidity in rock backfill and it through me for a loop. Anyone have any experience with this? We are designing a 24" steel gas pipeline that will have corrosion protection. In the roadways it will have rock backfill. I think this is a...

    Parking Lot Planter Strip Sizing

That's what I am thinking. It's a gravel parking lot and they are not really needed if not used for plantings. I have seen railroad ties put at ends of rows but dont really understand the usefulness of them.

    Parking Lot Planter Strip Sizing

Is there any criteria for sizing planter strips at the ends of parking isles? We are designing a parking lot and have limited room and want to minimize them as much as possible.

Catch Basins in Gravel Parking Lots

Does anyone have any experience using catch basins in a gravel parking lot? I have always tried to avoid them due to obvious reason. I think I have seen them used before with a concrete apron around them to avoid dirt and gravel getting in them.

    Trenching

We need to take a 24" pipe under a good size electrical duct bank sitting with a bottom of 5' deep. Is there normally issues with supporting the duct bank during trenching activities?

    Concrete pipe trench

Big inch, you really think a 6'w x 6'd trench is going to float? I don't like the casing idea for multiple pipes at all, too many issues with that. We are going to utilize a concede trench with an removable top.

    Concrete Pipe Trenching

Ron, I think the concrete vault would work well but it will need to have concrete removal lid along the entire length to install the future piping. I dont think that is a big deal to design from a strucural standpoint.

    Concrete pipe trench

Thanks stainier I think the vault is a much cleaner solution then several casings. We do have tresses on site that will also be used.

    Concrete pipe trench

Thanks rakook, I think that would work great. We have one roadway crossing where we will design to H20 but the remainder will have minimal loading. A lot of this trench will be level and there will be some water penetration into the vault so I think 4" drain pipes will probably be necessary at...

    Concrete pipe trench

How would they install the future pipe under the road within the culvert?

    Concrete Pipe Trenching

Is it feasible to even put removable steel plates along 700' of trench?

    Concrete Pipe Trenching

about half the trench is going to be above ground. Rather then a grate I am thinking of just a watertight steel lid along the length of it that can be removed for future installations. But, yes, that is one of the critical design issues I am trying to get figured out.

    Concrete Pipe Trenching

We are designing a concrete pipe trench on an industrial site that will hold 2 24" Gas lines with 2 smaller gas lines running above them. 4 pipes total in concrete trench. One 24" gas line will be laid in the trench initially will the others to be installed with other phases. What would be the...

    Concrete pipe trench

That would be a little extreme dont you think for 2-24", 1-6", and 1-12" pipes? A huge tunnel vs a 8'w x 6'd concrete trench is significant. But, its an option, thakns. I think the road crossings are the most significant part of this design as a grate will work in all other areas. Maybe in...

    Concrete Vaults

I guess what I am asking is what are peoples experience with this. In my little experience with vault design I have prepared a design of the vault with consisted of only a layout (dimensions) of the vault and then specificications for both pre-cast and cast-in-place. These specs gave the...

    Concrete Vaults

cvg, i really dont think as engineers we need to decide on alternatives methods to our entire design up front. Is that what you mean? For vaults, if they design is for pre-cast and they decided to go to cast-in-place who comes up with a rebar and concrete design?
