Afternoon all,
Our company has insisted on spec'ing it's own custom bearings for an application. Thin section Hybrid ceramic if it matters.
Are there any specific drawing standards for ball bearings? (like there are for optics, castings, springs, gears)
I've found several references to ABMA 20...
The most irritating part, is that I work *at* a company that has mentor-ships, but because I don't work *for* the company, I'm not eligible for such things.
Dumbass contractors will stay dumbass contractors. They must.
I can single out senior engineers and ask them questions, but like someone...
IMHO,
It's there to quickly differentiate if you are in fact, looking at a metric drawing or one done in stupid units.
Does it have a leading zero? that is 25mm, not 25". So holy crap this thing just got smaller.
It also helps get rid of trailing zeros and the idiocy of block tolerances...

I agree w/ Jerry,
Look into the master model approach where your drawings are kept separate from the 3d.
The othersetting you're looking for in the drawings is: extracted edges. (view->style) I believe you'll want this checked on.

Hello all,
I would like some horror stories from past experiences why we need a good PDM/PLM system.
Our group is integrating Teamcenter where we had a simple SVN system before. I have a difficult new user who doesn't think we need all this junk. We are also integrating w/ Agile. He thinks...
Hi Joe,
Some questions here about how best to work remotely.
User A wants to:
[ol 1]
Download an entire assy to hdd,
One of those files being checked-out to him
and let the other files be worked on by other engineers.
work remotely on his file,
then check it in to server when back...
Thnx Cory,
It sounds like they are using the 14.8 std (just got it!) to help define where the casting datums are to make the machined datums. Interesting. You say 8 datums. Must only be two casting datums A,B? CDE for hub/bearing/caliper and FGH upper/lower/tie rod...makes 8 datums.
I wonder if...
cross thread - Just hoping to get GregLocock or similar's thoughts on tolerances on something like this:

Perhaps I'm not understanding ... something.
I'm very much trying for the datums to be assigned according to function of the part. The lower joint only controls translation along xyz, the upper bolts only control the rotation about x, the sides of the upper faces only...
Ah, sorry, I am aware that i would need to put axes on the dwg. I haven't quite figured out where I might want my 0,0,0. Currently I'm thinking probably at the center of the ball joint about 13mm below the bottom taper. Very open to suggestions.
My main question is: are 4 datums allowed to be...
My understanding of y14.5 2009 (roughly pg 83 of the std.)
Is that if I have a part being support by things that are compliant in certain directions but not others that I can tell a datum to not control all of it's implied degrees of freedom.
i.e.
A cone defines 5 degrees of freedom, but in my...
Howdy all,
I'm finding myself assisting in the design and tolerancing of a steering knuckle. Any recommendations on standards and reference materials?
Also, are there any standard ways of toleracing the tapers for tie rod and ball joints? I've found some machine tool / morse taper...
I'm a cad admin for our company currently running nx 8.5 and teamcenter.
Just looking for thoughts on upgrading to NX10 especially wrt stability. Anybody with experience have any thoughts? I'm quite familiar w/ NX9 so I understand the interface will be different.

Good info.
My experience at the machine shop was that there was a 'traveler'. A printed copy of the drawing (on A size paper) that stayed w/ EVERY batch of parts in a plastic sleeve (to prevent their/my greasy monkey hands from destroying it). The setup machinist, the production monkey, and the...
My question
Why not make a A size template that has essentially D size fonts on it?
I was surprised that when I did a search, couldn't find much on the subject.
I'm finding myself in a cad admin role and setting up drafting templates for a small division of a large company.
I'm a mechanical...
Hello all,
Forgive me, I couldn't find this information posted. I'm a serial mechanical engineering contractor and have used NX and teamcenter for a couple years as a user, but I'm finding myself now an admin.
I'd like to import about 4000 NX prt files and another thousand or two sim and...
