I'm not new to IV but I am kinda new to the ribbon concept. I didn't much like it at first (vis. Word 2007) but I'm getting used to it since everyone seems to think it is better than the toolbar approach. In AutoCAD I liked my good old customized toolbars (still use them in 2009) but...
I was looking for something else BUT, since I now have a dual core Pentium, I thought I'd speed things up if I could. Here's a link that might (???) work:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=12107410&linkID=9242018
I don't know if this will work yet but I'm a gonna...
You can modify the Threads.xls file for custom threads. You need to have all the info: major, minor, tap and pitch diameters etc. When you get into the file you'll see what you need. There might be another problem in that you will have to replace your file with an unmodified one (just overwrite).
There is an 'apparent intersection' option in IV. See the video

to dimension an apparent intersection. Hope it helps...
Just a thought: there are 2 kinds of points. One works for locating holes, etc. on sketches and models and the other one doesn't. You can toggle between them by clicking on the point icon turning it from one to the other. Since I can't get it straight which does what I put both kinds of points...
I used AutoCAD doing 3D for years before switching to IV. There are differences of course but the parametric part is great and the fact that all your detail drawings change automatically is a Godsend come plotting time and keeping everything up to date including the BOMs. Which brings up other...
The problem does stem from the Threads.xls file. As I recall, Autodesk said to copy a new version into your directory overwriting the existing and everything should be OK. BTW, I added a custom thread but to do so you must have all the info for it: pitch, minor, tap and major diameters & etc...
I have a cast iron hemisphere and I want to put a pipe tap in the bottom (from the outside). It has a wall thickness of 1" so I drilled a 1/4" hole thru and then counterbored 1" dia. x 1/2" deep and then tried to put a 1/4" pipe tap at the bottom of the c'bore figuring that a pipe tap into that...
I just found a new set of tools for Inventor that I didn't know I nor you have. They're kinda like Express Tools in AutoCAD although not nearly as complete. It's just some 'stuff'.
Go to the SDK directory in your main INV directory and read up on what's there. One of the utilities lets you...
Hello all:
I've got IV 2010 Pro and I'm trying to delete a couple of cross members from the skeletal model I use for the frame generator. I've gone to the 3D sketch and deleted the members (sketch only) but when I go back to the model the members are still there and I can't delete them. I use...
Thanks mflayer. I saw a video on Youtube from an Autodesk expert and he showed how to change the orientation of a plane vis a vis flipping but now that you mention it, it was not an origin plane. Thanks for the info. I'll just muddle along. BTW, can you help and guide me to a site that shows...
I took a week of training in IV 9 and pretty much all they taught us was what IV can do, not so much how to do it. And BTW, why is the c/s so close to the raised part of the flange? Remember, sometimes you just can't manufacture it the way you design it.
Find out from NASA who designed those balloons they used on the Mars rovers and go from there. Really, the good old government is happy to help. Course it many take a zillion or so emails to find the info you need, but hey, gives you something to do :) At the very least you could find out...
What I'm trying to do (IV 2010 Pro) is switch the orientation of the positive xy plane. You know, the old 'change the plus to minus and minus to plus' as the guy said to his buddy after blowing up his dead battery :)
I'm modeling a complicated plastic part and I'm trying to avoid creating a...
