The boom lock is broken off and I want to repair it. I am in southeast MO. I intend to mig weld the repair. What do you mean by C/S tab? is that Cold Roll?
I assume the preheat will outgas any oil in the weld area. Thats a good idea.

I need to weld up some parts of a backhoe that are cast steel parts. Do I need to do anything special to the part before I weld on it. Some areas I need to build up and some I need to weld parts to them where they broke off.

Is it possible to use a template when cutting with a plasma cutter? Would it have to be non conductive? For example if I want to cut 16 4" diameter holes can I make a template for that and clamp it to the steel and cut the holes by hand ...

I am looking into building a CNC burning table. What is the best kind of drive system for the X,Y axis? Stepper or Servo motors? I need this to be PC controlled and to read a DXF file. Any tips on where to start

There will not be any increase in shear strength as you have not increased the diameter of the nail. There will be a small increase in the withdrawl index but only to the limit of the head diameter unless the nails are driven through a metal backing then the point cinchec over.

I'm guessing here that one would jig up the "T", square everything up tack it well then put some pre-stress into the joint then weld....
