    Rigid, hard coating?

Mike, if you look closely you'll notice there are 2 propellers on the plane (contra rotating) to cancel torque and aero imbalance. Here is a link to my thread on rc groups showing some recent blades https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2784297-Bill-Clark-s-F3P-build/page2 mine have an...

    Rigid, hard coating?

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated. Andrew, these are air propellers. I am assuming from yours and Mike response Mastic is a rigid coating. I will give the CM-15 a try. Dik, Compositepro, I am using a Clear coat/laminating epoxy...

    Rigid, hard coating?

Any ideas for a very rigid, hard coating that can be applied by conventional methods? the coating would also need to be fairly high in viscosity to avoid saturating the core material. The application is a propeller blade 7" long by 1" wide and .040" thick. To put the loads in perspective each...

    Epicyclic for torque balancing?

I have been working other differentials (and realizing they dont work). I am wondering what if we were no longer bound to having all the elements in one plane? What if we canted the planets? Could we achieve torque balancing of the outputs? See the dropbox link below for cutaway, side view...

    Epicyclic for torque balancing?

Thanks you for your response gg. It appears that driving the sun and attaching the props to the carrier and ring work as there are some examples of this out there. If I went that route is there a relationship between the ring and carrier I should look for to produce an equilibrium? Edit- I was...

    Epicyclic for torque balancing?

I am having a hard time getting my head around this concept and if it would even work and was hoping a sharper mind could help. I have seen it work by driving the sun but can it work by driving the ring. In this example (see attachment) the drive is in yellow. A propeller is attached to the...

Suggestions- suitable material for extrusion nozzle

I am going to investigate the SiC. The Ultimet looks like some really tough stuff but may pose some difficulty popping a .25mm hole in it in house. Wondering if the next logical step might be to try H13. Its possible, because the orifice will always be full of plastic in use or not, that...

Suggestions- suitable material for extrusion nozzle

Thanks for the reply. Yes, ceramics have been considered. Cost is assumed to be the deterrent although this hasn't been investigated. With metals, all the manufacturing can be done in house with ready access to a furnace. The plastic contains glass or carbon fibers.

Suggestions- suitable material for extrusion nozzle

Good day Gentlemen, I need some help selecting a grade of hot work steel or other variety that will survive in this environment. Application- Nozzle for extruding abrasive plastics at high temperatures. Nozzle measures 3mm long X 1.5mm in diameter with a through hole starting at .75mm then...

    Friction Drive

I hope I am not braking any rules by linking to my original post but think this may have been a better place for it. Please take a look http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=346529

    Miniature epicyclic friction drive

From further research it seems a rubber/phenolic hybrid might posses the properties I am seeking but finding such a material is proving to be a bit of a challenge. I recently tested a phenolic pinion which I believe to be paper or cloth impregnated. Although heat and durability were not an issue...

    Miniature epicyclic friction drive

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and will attempt to keep it short. Engine Tips is my go-to when I'm stumped and I'm about stumped I am designing a miniature planetary reduction unit based off of the friction drive concept. The unit will be driven by a <35w electric motor via the...

    Ceramics for engine exhaust

Mike, I'm sure that would work. I am intersted in creating a marketable product though. The market a product such as this would be presented would respond favorably to things like "Aerospace Carbon/Ceramic Tuned Pipe" (a little fluff, yes)and if we can end up decreasing radiated heat, noise, and...

    Ceramics for engine exhaust

Thanks Boo, I will research that. I did find several putty/adhesive materials that might be used as a matrix with a braided ceramic sleeve material as a reinforcement. Maybe it can be sufficiently reduced for impregnation. I am waiting to here back from this company...

    Ceramics for engine exhaust

Ed, I was thinking along those lines too. TVP, to offer a better understanding an example would be what resembles a baseball bat.Hollow,30" long, 2.5-3" diameter w/ taper on one or both ends. A steel pipe about 12" long is between this an engine. Application is weight sensitive (less than one...

    Ceramics for engine exhaust

My concern was the toughness too. I think they are producing turbine housings out of the stuff. Not a piston engine screaming into it w/ high frequency, supersonic waves but still a harsh environment

    Ceramics for engine exhaust

A need in my particular field of interest exists for a tuned pipe/muffler (for IC engines) that has very low thermal conductivity, mild to moderate strength, good thermal tolerance (1600deg.F) and be relativly easy to manufacture. Typically aluminum, steels or carbon fiber w/ a BMI matrix are...

    high strength/impact resistant shafts

I will apologize for my ignorance in advance. I am interested in locating a high strength, high impact tolerant, shaft material 8-10mm in diameter, preferably precision ground to fit bearing. This will be used in a fixture to conduct destructive testing. test example- -8mm shaft -about 6" in...

    nitro carburetor size question

i would go with mechanical fuel injection as there are plenty of guys that can get you set up safe (relative). consider that if you get it wrong even NA you will probabley be picking bearing material off of the crank journals (or worse). We run a top alcohol funny car and although I have no...

    solutions for 2-Stroke vibration

there is a gentleman developing a rotary for our applications but he is a ways out. weight is critical for sure. the boxers are very popular. an example is of a 85cc single which weights 5.5 lbs, produces 9.5hp and cost $1000 with exhaust. a 100cc opposed twin is about 8lbs, produces about the...
