Hi,
I need to find out the capacity of a crawl beam which has a horizontally curved section. As far as I understand I need to check the bending and torsion of the beam. The two ends of the curved part are supported by other straight beams. My question is, how do I calculate the eccentricity? I...
Hi,
I come across lots of old steel where I work. The time ranging from 1928 to 2013. The very old steel which I cannot find the proof of the strength, I use 210MPa yield strength. Most of the connections are riveted but I see some welding as well. I heard the welding is not effective for...
The 50' thickener consists of a centrally mounted drive head and the rake. The rake, shaft and the drive head are supported by the 51' bridge spanning across the thickener. My question is, does the torque generated by the rake transfer to the supporting bridge structure? When I apply the torque...
I need to find out how the yield strength of structural steel varies with temperature. When the temp. is 500 - 600 degrees C, what will be the yield strength? I understand it goes down, but how much, I don't know. Are there any references I can use? I greatly appreciate your response.
This is a spreader bar for lifting a 8 ton motor. The spreader bar is W6x15 and nearly 3'-0" long. A lifting lug of 1 3/4" thick plate needs to be welded to the top of the top flange. The top flange thickness is about 1/4". The motor is hooked up at the ends. Please see the...
Hi,
Which type of weld should be used to weld a 1 3/4" plate to a 1/4" plate? As far as I know the weld size should be smaller than the thinner plate, but in this case the other plate is too thick. Will complete penetration work? Or will it affect the 1/4" plate.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
When the hoist wheel loads are applied to a bottom flange of an I beam, how can I analyse the bottom flange for the local failure for bending and shear.
Thanks.
