    limiting flexplate flex

Being a racer I have had failures of the flexplate. All very dangerous to health. I assume that the higher pressues in a racing automatic pushed the convertor forward to the point it made contact with the starter. When a "button" was placed between the crank and convertor thrust bearing problems...

    Faster DC solenoid release time

This soleniod is for stopping fluid flow and is located in ambient air.It draws about 10 amps at 12volts. It is controled by hand with a simple momentary switch. Energizing time is not an issue. There are no electronics involved. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Faster DC solenoid release time

I am looking for the fastest way to release a 12volt soleniod after it is de-energized. Every ms counts. Reducing the voltage after energizing? How? What else? Thanks!

    torque and pressure paper?

Is there any formula for torquing head studs that allows for the different lengths and diameters of the studs so all studs produce the same clamping force? To take it one step further has anyone used pressure paper to check for even clamping forces? Pro's and Con's?

    how much crankshaft twist?

Metalguy, with the timing retarded 1 degree we lost 100ftlb 0f torque. This is on a 2100 hp motor. This is with a state-of-the-art MSD mag. The dyno also showed smaller "holes" of 20-60ftlbs as the rpm increased. Now if the mag is always under acceleration on the dyno then all the...

    how much crankshaft twist?

I wonder now because of distribution variations from cyl. to cyl. (boost, timing, fuel)perhaps we should make more dyno pulls measuring the actual cylinder combustion pressure and adjust the timing to its peaks. This should make the twist a non-issue. Very interesting comments, thanks. I wonder...

    how much crankshaft twist?

thought about it, and putting it at the un-driven end of the cam is a poor location. I would think that the ignition signal and distibutor(old school)should be the same unit, on the crank. Not seperated by gears, pulleys, bushings, and components that twist under load. Yes/No?

    how much crankshaft twist?

We race a roots supercharged motor. After dynoing we noticed a small amount of timing(1 degree)made a huge difference in power. Now with the ignition signal triggered from the front of the crank and the load at the back of the crank and a firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, what cylinders would...

    On a supercharged motor...

Thanks for the replys. Pat, I want to know if the velocity in the port becomes too high(.6 mach is optimum in NA motor)in a superchared motor if this is less efficent. For example, one head has a highflow high velocity, smaller port area. The other head is just bigger everywhere, bigger port...

    On a supercharged motor...

is the mach index of the intake valves as much as a concern as on a NA motor? Also, how does a supercharger effect the peak torque curve compared to a NA motor? Any links or calculations for these? thanks!

    off road shock

I see some off road vehicles hit bumps or go over jumps and the body of the vehicle hardly moves. All the action is taken up by the spring and shock. How are these shock adjustments and/or spring rates achieved? Some of the monster trucks are now able to land "like a cat" and have...

    supercharger relativity?

If you take a large supercharged engine and make it smaller, but all other components remain the same(heads, supercharger, etc), will the reduction in power be relative to a n.a. engine? Or because of the constant displacement supercharger, will the increase in cylinder pressure compensate for...

    which is stronger?

thanks! As you probably know this a race car roll cage. There is no post heat treating after the welding is done. Knowing this ,would the structure be stronger with the pieces welded one on top of another(like limbs to a tree trunk) or welded slightly apart from each other(so that the welds don't...

    which is stronger?

when building a structure from tubular material, would the use of bends in continuous piece be stronger and more rigid than the same angle being made out of two straight pieces welded together? Assuming a good mandrel bend(outside radius stretched, inside radius commpressed)opposed to a large...

    supercharger inlet size?

Greetings! How does increasing or decreasing the size of the inlet effect the boost curve of a roots type supercharger? I realize that being a pos. displacement pump its going to pump the same air every rev. regardless of rpm but at higher rotor rpm with a small inlet would the vacume become so...
