Per the Customer Spec, there are 3 category of Nozzle Loads:
a) Due to Weight
b) Due to Thermal
c) Due to Seismic
And they have specified F.lateral , F.axial, M.bending and M.torsion for all the cases.
My question is if the Nozzle is vertical, how is it possible to have Torsional Moment in...
I could'nt find it either, but isn't it strange!!
If I can increase the allowable shear stress in Base Metal by 1.4 per AISC N690, then why can't the allowable Stress on the base metal mating surface(0.4*Sy) can be increased while sizing for welds, as long as it is less than 0.3*Sut...
Hi,
Am I allowed to increase the allowable shear stress for weld sizing (0.3*Sut and 0.4*Sy) if my load combination includes Seismic Load per AISC.
If yes, what is the increase factor ?
Thanks,
Kapil
Hi,
How much increase in allowable shear stress (Weld Strength 0.3Sut or Base Metal Strength 0.4*Sy) is allowed in the presence of Seismic Load per AISC ASD Manual and AISC N690 Manual.
Thanks,
K Nandwana
No, what I meant was while performing the allowable nozzle load calculation ( Nozzle Load = Weight + Pressure + Thermal + Seismic (SC-II Vessel)) does the 3*Sm criterion of Pl+Pb+Q needs to be satisfied.
According to my understanding, since 3*Sm criterion is used to avoid fatigue failure and...
Hi ,
Per Customer Specs, I have Following Nozzle Loads Category :
1) Weight+Pressure
2) Thermal
3) Seismic
Now while peforming WRC 107 Check for 3Sm criterion, should Seismic Loads be included or excluded from the nozzle loads?
Thanks,
Kapil
I have a tangential nozzles welded to a pressure vessel.
I have to calculate the local stresses at nozzle / shell interface. Is WRC 107 applicable for tangential attachement ?
If not, is there any other easy way to determin local stresses.
Thanks,
K Nandwana

Hi :
I have to design the rebound pin for a blast door application. I have already determined the required plate thickness (1.25") and Reaction force acting on each along the edge (assuming simply supported plate) per UFC Manual.
Next, the force on each of the rebound pin was found (26710...
Hi :
Is there any classical formula available to obtain approximate maximum stress on a simply supported rectangular plate subject ed to Moment Loading over a small inner rectangular area (just like there Roark's case on uniform pressure over inner rectangular area)?
Thanks,

Hi All :
I am looking for reference/help in order to determine the bolt size and spacing required to design a gasket joint with 11psi pressure on a 0.5 in steel plate (with stiffeners) 126X133inch in dimensions.

I am current working on SC-II Pressure Vessel equipment. Customers have asked use to consider hydrodynamic effects during seismic event (sloshing), if necessary.
My question, how to I determine, whether these effects are significant and also how are these kinds of loads applied on the equipment.
Hi All :
We are currently testing our blast doors to ensure there is no leakage.
Test is performed by closing the door and clamping a plate (with gasket) on the other side of the door frame.
