Impact of using 4 Mtg holes vs. 8 Mtg holes in a fixed fastener instal

Apekim, If you are planning to attach with all 8 screws, I dont think the question of quantity of holes enters the equation. All holes must fit simultaneously. Whether you use 2 or all 8. Again you really need the location for the mating part to calculate the tol.

Impact of using 4 Mtg holes vs. 8 Mtg holes in a fixed fastener instal

apekim, If I am reading your thread properly, you are using .014 dia for your hole loc. tolerances. With this being a fixed fastener assy and your hole size of .404, that means that the threaded insert will require a projected tolerance of .015 dia. I find that to be rather restrictive for a...

Impact of using 4 Mtg holes vs. 8 Mtg holes in a fixed fastener instal

apekim, It appears to me that you are in desperate need of the locational tolerances for the mating part. Without that your are shooting in the dark? My opinion.

    Starting Datums

ctopher, Thanks, I almost fell for that one.

    Starting Datums

Paul, I have not been able to find referece online to Rectangular Ellipse, other than your explanation. Can you 9or someone else) direct me to a technical definition of one please. Thanks

    Starting Datums

Paul, A sketch would help. An I the only one in the forum who is unfamiliar with the term?

    Starting Datums

Paul, I have to ask, what is a rectangular ellipse? I don't believe I have seen nor heard that term before.

    Projected tolerance

It is not readily apparent why you want the gage to extend above and also below the holes in question. Also I would question the use of 'domed gages' and then trying to determine the axis. A sketch would certainly be of benefit arriving at any possible solution. What Standard is applied...

    GD&T Positional tolerancing

Is it possible they are using the Model Data Set for the definition?

    Wanting to Learn GD&T

I have several used GD and T textbooks and Standards. Is there some place online that they might be listed for sale?

How do you determine gage hole size using RFS.

I think Kenat made a good point. To follow up with that, I would ask, what version of ASME is applicable on your drawing?

TWO HOLE DATUM FOR ATTRIBUTE GAGE

Wicsteve, Tightening the holes would not seem to help the problem. I would think that to open them would aid the fit of the tube into the exhaust muffler. The datum identifiers with the dashes are not in compliance with 1994. I would think it would help also to limit the extent of the...

TWO HOLE DATUM FOR ATTRIBUTE GAGE

Wicsteve, It seems unlikely that you would want the positional tolerance of the send of the tube to apply for the entire straight portion. Hence the question that I had posed earlier, with regards

TWO HOLE DATUM FOR ATTRIBUTE GAGE

Wic steve, I have a couple of questions relating to the part and your definition of it. What version of Y14.5 is applied on the drawing. How is the attachment of the tube end made in the next assembly. This information would be of value in determining the proper definition and attribute gages.

    Location of a sphere

Mechnorth, I believe that is the direction that should be taken. If you consider that the datum features in this case are planar and the locus of points a given distance from the planes would result in a cubicoidal or rectangular zone, andthat is where we should be with the definiition...

HELP! With GD&T for TAPER Feature with radius.

lkiefer, The addition of datum identifiers and basic dimensions properly applied to the drawing would not necessarily 'simplify' the drawing but would lead to a more universal interpretation of your intent. The lines labelled as C/L have no particular significance on your current drawing and...

    Location of a sphere

pmarc, There has not been any evidence that would necessitate a spherical tolerance zone for the sphere. Might you show the assembled condition? I personally believe that three bidirectional tolerance zones would be the answer to your situation.
