    Question: Constraining a ship FEA

If you have a ship hull and you apply a pressure gradient to act as a lifting force, theoretically you could use the self weight from the 3d cad model to a weight. But if you were even the tensy wensy bit off, your ship would sink to the bottom of the ocean, or fly up into the air. Thats why...

    Lifting Shackle Stresses

Willwoll100, if you don't know how to do a rigging analysis you should have your boss teach you how. Or you could hire one of the many experienced unemployed engineers to do the calculation for you. To do this analysis. You need to figure out how much Load is going to be lifted. The center of...

    PVC Grating

If you can't find load tables for PVC grating, maybe you should hire a competent engineering firm to do it for you.

    Outplane angle in padeyes

Subengr, what company are you working for/with?

    Algor Programming Code

Does anyone know what the programming code for Algor is? I would like to create a preprocessor that would determine wave forces (morison equation) on a node.

    Outplane angle in padeyes

I have run calculations for outplane of a shackle, what company are you working for? All I can tell you is the force applied out of plane to the padeye severly reduces its strength, and as a rule; force should never be applied outplane of the padeye.

Abaqus Users - to simulate the behavior of RC Slab

Lol, DO you think that maybe the truss elements and slab elements are not communicating effectively? What dimensions are the slab? Have you tried the analysis with just the concrete?

Cd & Cm for square section legs

and then I realized you wrote "square section legs" (right? , who uses those??? And why?) Ciria Underwater Engineering Group: Report UR8, Dynamics of Marine Structures: Methods of calculating the dynamic response of fixed structures subject to wave and current action.. pg.152 Table 4.2 and...

Cd & Cm for square section legs

Are you using Cd and Cm with Morison's Equation for forces on an offshore fixed structures? Because these are different than the coefficents for added mass due to turbulence? Also Cm is sometimes referred to as Ci. For Morrison's Equation (without motion): You can reference API Recommended...

Engineering Books on Offshore & Marine Structures

Okay, so what are these launch frames used for? What is the offshore structure? Be as specific as possible? the 0.75g is very small, I would refer you to Noble Denton 'Guidelines for Marine Transportations' I used to do sea fastening and transport reports, so I will help you if I can, but...

Engineering Books on Offshore & Marine Structures

Yes but calculation on offshore structures could mean alot of things? "structures which are placed on vessels, drill ships, semi-submersibles, supply boats etc." what does this mean? Are you looking to calculate: 1. Stress 2. Vibrations 3. Fatigue 4. Seafastening 5. Wave forces 6. Dampening...

    Constrain a SHIP FEA

Yeah, constrain 6 degrees of freedom for a 3dimension model. Thats FE 101 for fixed structures. However a ship isn't fixed, its floating. So how does one constrain something that moves, like a ball? Question: Where and how would you apply constraints to a ships hull?

Engineering Books on Offshore & Marine Structures

There are alot of out of print books that you can sometimes download from the internet from Scribd or Iso Hunt. What kind of calculations are you looking to perform?

    Constrain a SHIP FEA

Question: Full Global model of a ship. How can a ship be properly constrained in finite element analysis software. A fixed constraint at any node does not properly simulate hydrostatic buoyancy forces. How can buoyancy forces be properly modeled in FEA?
