    Drilled belled shaft piles

@GeoPaveTraffic on a sort of related note. Based on your experience, is there a conservative rational method for determining the uplift skin friction value for concrete cast-in-place piers without having to perform a soil test, if the soil type is known? And if so, how many feet of the top of...

    Plain Concrete Design

Try researching the web for information on "Westergaard" equations. I seem to recall that he came up with equations for the use of plain concrete for slab on grade.

Is there thrust in a reinforced concrete arch?

StephenA - The live loading is H20-44 AASHTO loading. The rise on this arch is about 24" with a span of 20'. Is there a "rule of thumb" on when one should consider large horizontal forces depending on the rise to span ratio? I don't anticipate much shrinkage since the span is at about 20' and...

Is there thrust in a reinforced concrete arch?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a sliding support. Since all the concrete will be cast in place, I can't really put a roller support beneath the support.

Is there thrust in a reinforced concrete arch?

When you say tighter radius, are saying shallower arch or higher arch?

Is there thrust in a reinforced concrete arch?

I am designing a reinforced concrete arch spanning 20 feet over a small creek. The creek is not 20 feet wide but the owner wants to be conservative. I was wondering whether it is correct to assume that since I am designing for aashto loading of H20-44 shears and moments, do I need to worry...

Wind load on roof with pitch greater than 12:12?

Hey guys, I know I have read somewhere something that describes what to do if the roof pitch is greater than 12:12. I recall something about considering it to be a full story rather than a roof. Can someone point me to where this information is, please?! Thanks in advance.

IBC Section 2305.3.7.2.1, Item 2. allowable shear of 490plf?

Can anyone tell me if the 490plf maximum allowable shear load is the absolute maximum allowed? In other words, is the 490plf limit applied to even a double sheathed shear wall segment?

    IBC Shear Adjustment

In the 2003 IBC %full height sheathing starts at 10% and not 0%. A revision bar is beside this area indicating change. Hope this helped.

Can anyone tell me what the going rate is in TX for the design of a commercial wood structure with approx. 13000 S.F.? Will be using prefab roof truss system.

    Metal Building Design Book??

Hey guys, are there any good metal building design handbooks that you could recommend. Our company might get a metal building design, like a shopping center strip, and I want to get a jump on things. Any info is greatly appreciated. If I could get my hands on a go by, that would be great too...
