    EN 13480-3 Sect 11. Integral Attachments-CONFUSION

Hi Saplanti, I also have had the same problem. Did you ever get to the bottom of these issues? If so can you help me out? Kind Regards, James Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    ASME B31.3displacement stress clarification

My system will have some straight pipe runs fixed at each end that will encounter thermal expansion stresses. For example a 4m straight pipe, working from 20oC to 40oC and with an expansion coefficient of 13x10^-6 m/m K between fixed supports, I estimated a stress of approximately 218MPa. I...

    ASME B31.3displacement stress clarification

Thanks once again I think I might have it this time :) But surely the fact that they are defined as two separate stresses there must be some differences. So if I purely have a straight run of pipe fixed between two Anchors, for the S_L calculation I would exclude thermal effect and purely...

    ASME B31.3displacement stress clarification

Thanks for the input, but I still dont fully understand how thermal loads are accounted for in 319.4.4, maybe I'm missing somerthing here?? Biginch when I say pipeline I meant a pressure piping system. Thanks for any further help. Jimbo Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    ASME B31.3displacement stress clarification

I’m in the process of designing a new pipe line using ASME B31.3 and just want some clarification on the analysis of displacement strains/stresses. The code states the following should be achieved: SE<SA Paragraph 302.3.5 And that SE is calculated as follows: SE=(Sb^2+4St^2)^1/2 Paragraph...

    orifice plate theory

Apakrat I do not have this to hand. How does it have relevance to the problem and I will see if I can obtain it? Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    ASME III vs ASME IV

ferdy, I understand that they are for different applications but they both utilise Pressure Vessels so I assume have very similar concepts eg Flanges, PV heads and PV structure. What I want to know is if there are any major differences that one code covers that the other does not in terms of the...

    ASME III vs ASME IV

Our company is in the process of procuring an AMSE code for pressure vessels. We have to decide to procure ASME III or ASME IV as we have a need to use the code on both nuclear and standard Pressure systems. What are the key differences between the codes and is everything within ASME IV covered...

    orifice plate theory

Thanks 1gibson I will look into this. I’m trying to calculate the failure mode for the vessel. This could come in the form failure through collapse due to external pressure or maybe pressure build up within the vessel. Either way you need to know what the internal pressure is correct? Yes both...

    orifice plate theory

It sinks mechanically at a max rate of 4m/s. How would you propose to calculate the critical diameter of the holes to restrict air flow as suggested by Apakrat? Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    orifice plate theory

Initially as the body is at the surface it vents into the atmosphere. As it sinks towards the seabed it vents into sea water at a pressure of depth + 6m Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    orifice plate theory

The way I was initially looking at the problem was that the flow of water into the body is restricted at the outlet. Therefore a situation would arise where the air compresses stressing the body. As you can guess fluid mechanics is not my specialty!? There must be some way of calculating this...

    NDE Fasteners

Thank you for your help guys. I understand how this would be applicable in the shank of the fasteners that is straight but will this technique still work in the threaded region? Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    NDE Fasteners

The thread is 1.5/8" so relatively big fastener. How do you determine the difference between a crack in the Zinc coating and in the steel of the fastener?? Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com

    NDE Fasteners

I have some zinc plated fasteners that have seen approximately 5 years of service and the usual policy is to exchange new for old. However timescales are preventing the procurement of new ones and I am looking to perform either DPI or MPI to the fasteners to see if they have developed any...

    orifice plate theory

What im getting at is that I have two sets of orifices in series. The first set has a larger diameter then the second therefore I believe more volume of liquid is entering into the chamber then air is exiting as the object submerges. Therefore the air is compressing increasing pressure. I’m...

    orifice plate theory

Thank you Hacksaw, I am not looking to use this to take measurements just to find pressure increases as the fluid flows through the orifice. Could you elaborate further why it would not be applicable? Jimbo EngCo Solutions Ltd www.engcosolutions.com
