    Welding detail confused

Dear David, Thank you for your response the welding detail provided in the attached snippet (in the first post) and full RT can warrant using E=1.0? The full RT was done on the weld ... however the weld is single V groove but having "sealing run ground" weld on the other side (as i understood...

    Welding detail confused

OK Got it Thanks Snickster ... So it is V butt as welded (one one side) and sealing run ground (another side)... The second question that still confuses me what weld joint efficiency should be used from Table Table UW 12 ? This to calculate pressure shell wall thickness (having in mind weld...

    Welding detail confused

Dear Forum, What does the welding detail mean in attached file ? Weld on arrow side ? But what are circle and arch like markings adjacent to "V" ? And what weld joint efficiency it would need E=0.9 from ASME VIII Div 1 - Table UW 12 ?

    off spec piping

Design pressure is 14 bar.... Even if it is a typo 6 " also would not have that thickness... Suppose it is a "gun barrel" or "heavy bore" piping - is there some kind of standard for such thick "things" ?

    off spec piping

Dear forum, There is a vessel constructed to an ASMVE VII div 1 code (At least as datasheet says). Vessel nozzle spec says: 4", wall thickness 1.305" But, in schedule table there is no 4" pipe having thickness 1.305". Maximum thickness for 4" pipe is 0.674" = 17.12mm (XXS). Having done...

Flange magnetic properties outside vs inside

    Data sheet says: Nozzle Neck material - SA 105 N / SA 106 Gr B N 8" schedule S/120 FFWN Flange # 150

Flange magnetic properties outside vs inside

I dont know..... 1) Can such be happening - flange interior to have SS overlay? 2) How to check in place ?

Flange magnetic properties outside vs inside

Dear forum, I have I noticed a following - a flange face and flange interior have different magnetic properties rather than its outside surface.... The magnet sticks strongly to a flange from outside and very weakly to a flange face .... Vessel Nozzle neck has the same behavior - from outside...

    Flange face coating

Dear Forum, Your advise is needed.... in what cases the flange faces are coated ? I have a spec where 20 mills coating thickness is specified on sealing face of a flange (RF flange ).... 20 mills makes 0.5mm and this is the order of depth of the flange face rings. Isn't the sealing capability...

API 579 FFS-1 general / local metal thinning case study

It says that variation of thicknesses (Coefficient of Variation) in general metal loss assessment in API 579-2 / ASME FFS-2 part-4 should not be more than 10% of neighboring locations. Therefore can we define a general metal loss within an area of grid - it is an area where the neighboring...

Dear All, Can you advise me any resource link for learning API 579 FFS-1 general / local metal thinning case study... with some basic examples / calculations.... Thks

    Pitting corrosion on piping

Ed Stainless, Could you kindly please a little bit in more details what do you mean under "but more likely related to either manufacturing or the installation"?

    Pitting corrosion on piping

Does it look only as Chloride pitting or their elongated nature may dictate they are driven by stresses (pipe under 200 bar) thus it turns to be a Stress Corrosion Cracking?

    Pitting corrosion on piping

Th Dear EdStainless / TugboatEng it is external surface of a pipe clean with a solvent (it was having stains on it). This line is in service for 10 years or so probably there were some shutdowns .... Is that question related to susceptibility of SS develop cracks in intermittent service ?

    Pitting corrosion on piping

Dye-penetrant showed this type of indications, thus not knowing how deep they might me ... the piping is 10m long what would be the suggestion ? Dye-pen inspect the whole 10 m line ?

    Pitting corrosion on piping

Dear Forum, What would be your thoughts on following deterioration (photo attached). Piping is 2" (Wall thickness ~5mm) 316 SS in Marine environment for a long time under ~ 200 bars

Piping leak repair with "something" that does not need surface preparation

Dear forum members, There is a leak (multiple pin holes next to each other) on a 2" line which is heavily corroded (operating pressure 2 bars, oily water). The line can not be shutdown for a long time (10-15 min), leak is close to U bolt support, surface is very corroded... Is there some...

    Weld penetration details

r6155 / Trestala Tank you very much for your reply. So can we say following: a fillet weld was welded (45 degree triangle), afterwards the back-side (opposite side) was gouged and the weld was deposited on opposite side ?
