Bearing stress for tempered glass at bolt

Yes there has to be a bush between glass and the bolt. But still what should be the allowable stress for the glass considering the bush size?

Bearing stress for tempered glass at bolt

Hi, I want to know the allowable bearing stress for glass at location of bolt. The location is the splice location for the glass fin which has bolted connection arrangement. ASTM E1300 specified edge stresses for different types of glass in (TABLE X9.1 Allowable Edge Stress). Can these values...

    Frequency for Wind tunnel

I noted that in ACI 318-14 the ACI 318-08 commentary R10.11.1 has been removed. Although the code is completely restructured, but the commentary is nowhere in the code. It is usually considered that the commentary is not code. Keeping in view the responses from wind tunnel experts I came to...

    Frequency for Wind tunnel

@bookowski, Our wind tunnel report includes the forces corresponding to the SLS dynamic properties (uncracked frequency) along with forces corresponding to 5% higher and 5% lower than the SLS frequency. Our SLS model loads are ok as it is not changed during detailed design, however the ULS model...

    Frequency for Wind tunnel

@bookowski, You mean that the Wind tunnel guys asked for ULS periods? I think the practice is to provide SLS dynamic properties for Wind tunnel. But i wanted to ask for reference and the logic behind using SLS properties. The posts in the thread "thread507-242316: Dynamic Properties - Wind...

    Frequency for Wind tunnel

thread507-242316 Dear Experts, Could someone shed light on the matter that the time period to be sent for wind tunnel should be based on uncracked (SLS) structural frequency or based on cracked section (ULS) to determine the Wind forces. If it should be uncracked (SLS), is there any reference...

Hydrodynamic force on internal walls for global stability

Thanks, Mr. briancpotter, One more question. If I consider the entire water volume as "impulsive mass" (without considering convective mass), and simply determine the "base shear" = total weight x OBE (0.24g). Is this be the same as if using the westergaard hydrodynamic pressure to determine the...

Hydrodynamic force on internal walls for global stability

Or the base shear be determined considering the hydrodynamic force on exterior wall only? The other option is to determine the total base shear considering the total impulsive force of water in the tank. Which option should be adopted for the design?

Hydrodynamic force on internal walls for global stability

I am designing de-silting chamber. There are two divide walls in the chamber, making three bays, independent of each other. I want to evaluate the factor of safety against sliding for the chamber. The critical case is the tank full of water and earthquake. The question is that, to determine the...

Detailing of Pin ended Connection Reinforced Concrete Column

@ TXStructural Can you please elaborate "That said, if the footing is at one level and then a slab is installed higher up on the column, excessive fixity may well be a problem. You can end up with a stiff column that is not strong enough".

Detailing of Pin ended Connection Reinforced Concrete Column

slickdeals yes the main reason for using a pin ended connection is to obtain a stiffer super structure. In fact the isolated footing is never fixed end condition. And definitely the bars will be adjusted to avoid the criss-cross. The column will give partial fixity in the other direction.

Detailing of Pin ended Connection Reinforced Concrete Column

Aramco Specification requires pin ended concrete column details. Please check the attached sketch of detailing of pin ended reinforced concrete column. Is it ok to detail a reinforced concrete column like this? The spalling of concrete at the pin location shall be protected by concentration of...

Detailing of Pin ended Connection Reinforced Concrete Column

Hello Everyone, Can any body provide reference to the detail of pin ended connection of reinforced concrete column?

    Dam Contraction Joint

Hi all, I am working on the structural design of a concrete gravity dam. The spillway is 56 meters wide. Three radial gates openings (12m wide x 15m high) are made for the spillway water leaving behind 6.4 meter thick piers. Contraction joints are placed in each pier for the entire 55m height of...

Rapid Draw down analysis on ABAQUS

Hello! I am trying to determine the pore pressure distribution within a slope resulting from a rapid drawdown of a lake, using ABAQUS. I am specifying the initial condition of pore pressure, void ratio and saturation. For the transient analysis I am specifying the pore pressure boundary...
