    Tapping fine over coarse threads

I mistakenly had a hole tapped 4-40 instead of 4-48. Normally this wouldn't be the end of the world. However, ball spring plunger only come in 4-48 in that size. Is there a remedy to this? I've attempted using a helical insert but the material is titanium and it just tore up the tap.

Multi-Axis turning (turning about two non parallel axis)

I am looking for a technique, machine, or part (e.g. collet) that would allow me to turn a rod about at least two non parallel axis. Does anyone know of one and could point me to the right direction? What I am trying to get is a single cross section at a different orientation (<10 degrees). It...

Need help finding Stainless Steel Rivets for rotational pin joints

I am working with .020 " stainless steel sheet. I would like to create a rotational joint by placing a rivet in place and am having problems finding an appropriate rivet. Can anyone suggest a company/ rivet that I might use? I really like the flush mounted SFP SpotFast Fasteners but they don't...

    Laser welding drawings callout

I am looking for a reference that I can use to callout a laserweld on a drawing. In the past I have used an arrow followed by LBW and numbered note that specifies depth and class of welds. The welding houses I work with hate this because of how they have to verify depth. However, when I ask how...

Profile tolerance for an array of slots

I have an array of slots that are defined by basic dimensions (Radius, length) and a profile tolerance. I would like to dimension and tolerance the pattern but am not sure how. If it was a hole pattern I could write 300X .25+-.004 with the attached positional tolerances and basic dimensions...

looking for suggestions on small quantity polymer film supplier

I have no problem trimming to size. However the max size that McMaster offers is 24x24. I need at least 48" and possibly 60"

looking for suggestions on small quantity polymer film supplier

I am looking for a small quantity polymer film supplier. I'm looking for several polymers (ABS PEEK PE) in dimensions of .01-.015 (thickness) x 1" x 48-60" can anyone recommend a supplier? McMaster has ABS in 2 weeks and PEEK but not in dimensions that I want. Grainger only has PE. Thanks

Standard ID and OD of PH17-4 tubing

I am looking for a catalog of standard ID and OD of 17-4 SS. The OD range should be from 3-20mm. I have the sizes for other stainless alloys but cannot find one for 17-4. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Laser welding-- surface temp and spot size in Ti64

I would like to have a strip of Ti64 (cross section .7 x 4 mm) welded to a block 3 mm thick. I would like to run a seam (.2 mm deep) down the 4 mm length (from A to B in the attached image). My question is at what point along the thickness (t) of the part will the temp drop down to below 100C...

    Best manufacturing process reference.

TMEH is what I am looking for. However, it hasn't been updated since 1983. Is there anything more recent?

    Best manufacturing process reference.

I am a mechanical engineer in need of a good manufacturing process reference. I have texts from college but they are rather dated. I need something that doesn't look at cnc as something new :) . The equipment/processes I am looking for are laser welding, wire edm, swiss lathes, and live...

Profile tolerance on a biconvex object

Ignore the my reponse line wasn't correctly worded. (or correct for that matter :) Why is there no edit?

Profile tolerance on a biconvex object

Sorry, I just reread my initial post and realized that it was not very clear. The part is to be machined by taking a block of material and cutting the "front" profile. It is then to be rotated 90 degrees and machined using the side profile. My friend suggests that since the cross section...

Profile tolerance on a biconvex object

I have a biconvex object similar to the one that is attached (The actual object has multiple curves per side instead of just 1). I would like to assign a profile tolerance to the front and side view to tolerance it. A colleague of mine says that I can't do it because the profile of the front...

    Flatness of specific regions

I have a rectangular plate where I need to specify a flatness tolerance on an area located 1.5" from the long ends (out of 40"). In the past when I specified flatness I've always specified from a-b but without a feature to associate a and b with I'm lost. A little illustration where the x...

    Multiple Tangental Constrained Radii

This is a simplified example. I actually have several (10?) Radii. I don't care where the tip ends but I do care about the radii are constrained and thickness

    Multiple Tangental Constrained Radii

I'm dealing with a small sheet metal part that has multiple sequentially constrained radii (see attached picture, all radii are constrained). If I constrain the upper and lower surfaces with constrained radii I run into the possibility of the the geometry on the left occurring where one radii...
