oil pump issues - would like some advice

I have to come back to this. Upon further looking into the graph it appears that it is expressed in pump Rpm. Since the pump is driven by the camshaft in these engines at half engine rpm, 3000 rpm at the pump equates to 6000 engine rpm. Now this seems to fall right at the rpm zone where i'm...

oil pump issues - would like some advice

I already posted about this same problem over on several Chevy engine forums, but without much succes. Nobody seems to really know what is going on, although more people are seeing the same thing. It looks like a pump specific problem. Meanwhile I receive a pump graph for this pump. It seems...

oil pump issues - would like some advice

I was contemplating on putting an extra external oil bypass to the pan sump that was regulated a little lower than the oil pump's own relief valve (75), say 70 psi. Not sure if this can be done however.

oil pump issues - would like some advice

Not really. It already has the largest inlet for these pumps, .750". The std pump has a 5/8 inlet. The pump inlet doesn't allow a larger tube. I must add in all honesty that the pickup was specific for the pan and from a differenct manufacturer. The screen in the pickup is larger regarding mesh...

oil pump issues - would like some advice

I did several tests to evaluate what was going on, so this is a short summary of them : I first used a 10W40 weight oil : hot the idle pressure was lower than now (around 25-30 psi). Oil pressure at below 5000 was 60 psi and dropped thereafter with about 15-20 psi. I lowered oil level to...

oil pump issues - would like some advice

This is in effect a PD pump, 2 gears in the pump body. Yes, this is the way these oil pumps are setup in general apparently. I'm not sure as to why it's recirculated internally. I assume (not sure here) that it has something to do with preventing cavitation in way because it would put the inlet...

oil pump issues - would like some advice

I'm turning to this forum since I do not seem to be able to solve the issues I'm facing although it's automotive related. I have an engine here that turns high rpm's. For several reasons I upgraded the oil pump to a high volume, higher pressure unit. The pump has a 75 psi relief valve spring in...

    VW newest TDI engines

I have a simple question : do the newest VW TDI engines incorporate some kind of variable valve timing ?

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

The bores were oiled and some oil on the pistons. They were not dipped in oil however. I agree on all comments about the hone job, just not sure about how much contributed to the problem. As for priming. I had a tool to prime the oil pump, but it didn't have the collar to pressurize the...

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

It would think it was rich. Plugs were more or less black. This is a semi-race engine. As is evident i was not to happy with the crappy work. I tried to clean things out as good as i could, but i didn't remove the cam bearings since i didn't have the proper tool to do the job.

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

Coolant passages are a mess, but they were not like that in the beginning. I drained the water out of the engine after she was run, but due to the siamesed bores, some remained on top of the cylinders and cause some rust. I agree on the glaze breaker thing. I hope that it is what i think it is...

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

Not much on the rings faces. Will try to make pictures. P-t-W clearances were measured with a mic (bore gauge). 0.01-0.02 mm taper, same out of round System was complete with functioning shroud, fan and clutch. Filled with regular water untill water came out of the thermostat housing which is...

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

Cylinderbores were cleaned with tolueen solvent and white paper towels untill no discoloration on the towels anymore. I had a lot of problems with the guy that did this engine. The first block came in and had rust pits in the bores. I complained and after a lot of discussion i treatened to...

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

Ok, and i shouldn't forget. The block was obviously not plate honed as i had asked which is clearly seen by the markings on the top of the bore. Might have caused some additional blowby.

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

PS : couldn't measure oil pressure, since body was not on the frame and no gauges. Oil was coming on top after a short while. Could be oiling issue as stated. Have difficulty in accessing this.

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

Can't remember rod side clearance exactly but was something like 15 thou. Was running richt. 10° initial timing, rpm varied between 1500-3000 rpm. Run in on a bare frame, no load, oil cooler and radiator/fan attached. CR is a solid 10/1 static, DCR close to 8/1. Thermostat was 160 and had...

    Piston skirt/rod length question/issues

Hi, I have some questions about an engine that started to seize its pistons during break in. The subject is a small block chevy, 400 ci siamesed bore block with a 3.250" stroke crank and some long 6.250" rods with 2618 pistons of CH 1.125". They pistons have suffered from slight scuffing after...

    What size interference fit

I measured an bushing and control arm I have here and the interference fit on that one seems to be 0.2 mm. However the bushings dimensions are all over the place.

    What size interference fit

I'm modifying a control arm to accept a certain type of rubber bushing (in an outer metal shell) How much interference fit should these type bushings have in their bore ? Thanks
