I looked at B31.12 in the hydrotest section, however, I did not see anything in this regard. I will go back and look more thoroughly. Please reference the section if you have it.
I know there is a stipulation about a closure weld or weld that can be 100% X-rayed in lieu of hydrotesting in B31.3 process piping; however, is there any similar stipulation for a closure weld in B31.12 hydrogen piping?
Tom,
I came across your post "nozzle neck thickness output" regarding the UG-45 code requirements (see link below). I have a similar issue as plantguyjj, as I am evaluating a vessel fabricated in 1971 and the UG-45 requirements in the rating mode cause deficiencies in the nozzles. This vessel...
I did not get a material from our lift contractor as it is conceptual to see if they can even do it. We would be at liberty to specify the required material.
We have an application with a water seal that has a 1/4" thick x 40" diameter pipe supporting a large pipe 64" cap and 64" pipe segment to form a water seal. I suspect the 64" cap and 64" pipe segment is vibrating/moving on top of the 40" pipe due to flow and there was a failure of the 40"...
I have a heavy lift contractor asking if he can weld a lug onto an existing support trunnion in order to install this boiler. See the attached image. This trunnion is on a boiler that is PWHT, however, can the contractor weld the trunnion without any issue with PWHT because it is a non...
Do external non pressure retaining attachments (i.e. platform clips, ladder clips, skirts, lugs, etc.) have to be included in the calculations performed for vessel re-rate? Are re-rate calculations performed for pressure boundary components only? Does seismic and wind have to be calculated...
The exchanger design temperature is 300 degrees F.
I believe the stress allowables are the same from -20 to 650 in the 1965 allowables. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
Thanks for your help.
I am re-rating an exchanger that was fabricated in 1965 and I am trying to find the stress allowables for the following materials. Would anyone be able to help me with this?
SA-212B
SA-201B
SA-53B
Any help would be apprciated.
I have a reactor that has studs welded to pads that are welded to the shell for thermocouple attachment. During installation a few of the studs were damaged and need to be replaced. I believe that we can remove and re-weld the studs to the pad without affecting the PWHT of the vessel. This is...
I am addressing an issue with a new vessel (1-3/8" wall thk, SA516-70 material) that has not been in operation. The vessel is PWHT and is in Caustic service. However the internal support rings were fabricated incorrectly. The modifications to the tray support rings will need to be made which...
I have used both AutoCAD and MicroStation, I have found out thru my experience in both the private sector and working for TXDOT that MicroStation is better for Transportation projects, land developement, and mapping. AutoCAD is good for structural, machine, and architectural. Both are good...
