Educated Opinions on Climate change - a denouement or a hoax? Part 2.0

I've worked from the environmentalist standpoint and picking apart the idealist and alarmist language in climate change activists is some low hanging fruit. That said, there absolutely nothing more morally reprehensible than denying a hypothesis with even the slightest bit of evidence that...

    Design temperature downstream of coolers?

I've always set the design temperature of piping and equipment downstream of a cooler is based on the normal operating temperature upstream of said cooler. e.g. Cooler E-201 reduces the temperature of a gas from 200F to 80F. All downstream piping should be designed for 200F + a design factor...

    Engineering Outsourcing/Workshare Concerns?

Virtually all of the major engineering firms are now sending at least some piping design and CAD work overseas (namely, India) and many are beginning to do the same for the various engineering disciplines. I would be curious to hear everyone's experiences, worries and predictions about a...

Where have all the engineers gone??

@Twoballcane: I think it's misleading to take the total dollars of manufacturing output and present that as a sign American industry is actually doing better than anyone else in the world. What I like is Perry's original blog post concedes the loss of over 7 million manufacturing jobs since...

Where have all the engineers gone??

A lot of jobs will be phased out over the next 10-20 years as "workshare" (the new word for "outsourcing") starts to really kick in at the larger design firms. Operations engineering will also generally go overseas to follow the exodus of manufacturing jobs. This is excepting domestic...

    Bioreactor approach question

The plant is a commercial demonstration unit for a new energy technology. I have found values of 600 ppm COD and 250 ppm BOD as reasonable estimates for initial evaluation of waste water units in "chemical process industries" so I think I'll just go with that.

    Bioreactor approach question

    1. You can't get BOD or COD from "design calculations" or a waste water balance. 2. This plant is a commercial demonstration unit for a new process technology and contains additional water sources not in the existing pilot facility. 3-6. Er... thanks. Everybody's a comedian. I've since...

    Bioreactor approach question

I'm involved in plant design and developed the plant model. I have the mass balance and know my expected flowrates I guess what I should be asking here is if anyone has reasonable "typical" wastewater estimates for BOD and COD for a gas plant.

    Bioreactor approach question

I've been asked to spec-out a bioreactor system for treating wastewater from a grassroots plant. My problem is that, being a grassroots plant, there is no water sample. We don't know BOD or COD. Nor TDS for that matter. How does one go about specifying a biotreatment package from a vendor...
