Well, the loading may be better described as shear and some bending with tensile on one half of a cylinder. Right, I chose that hardness range to meet strength requirements and minimize HE. The plating is electrolytic.
I have a SCM435 part that is loaded in shear which I'm concerned about hydrogen embrittlement. Hardness is specified at HRC: 28-32. Finish is Ni-SnCO Barrel plating. The material and finish were shosen for their yield strength and toughness.
My questions are:
1) Do my specs lend a part that is...
The situation I originally posted is a shrink fit application. I'm placing the tube in liquid nitrogen to reduce its OD, placing the tube in the corresponding bore to have an interference fit when ambient temperature resumes. I wanted to know if the parts could be hand assembled. From my calcs...
Say you have an aluminum hollow cylinder with an OD and ID and length L. You uniformly change the temperature of the entire hollow cylinder by DT. I want to calculate the change in the OD of the hollow cylinder. Is it simply the original OD * alpha * DT?
Or is there an influence of the ID...
