    Weldable steel for spindle?

I am doing some axles for light weight trailers and I need to know what steel to use for the axle spindles. The spindles are roughly 1 3/4" diameter and will be welded into 3/16" wall carbon steel tube. The load per wheel is around 200#. What grade of steel would be weldable and also give a good...

Page 8-54 of the 2005 Tire and Rim Association Year Book shows the rim profile for standard 5 degree drop centre rims for all common rim diameters. If you can't lay your hands on a copy, a local library may be able to help.

AutoCAD and OLE obhect from Excel

I have no experience plotting excell sheets I took interest in the subject because I am about to include some cells in current work and I had heard there were problems plotting OLE objects. I am glad to hear it works OK then. What release are you on?

    FireGL vs. Quadro graphics.

Choosing a graphics card is one of the biggest decisions to make when working in CAD. What are the pros and cons of the two families (for say, a mid range card for no specific CAD software)?

    threads using ACAD2000

I tried Helicad some time ago and found the same problems. At the time, I searched several forums and couldn't locate the author of the program. Aparently a lot of people have been trying to track down the author. It is supposed to be distributed by an engineering company in Australia, but when...

    Hydraulic gearbox linkage.

Neal and CNC make hydraulic throttle systems. They may be adaptable to your gear change. Wilwood make a hydraulic actuator, originally for converting the old VW Beetle and Bus cable clutches to hydraulic. They would be ideal for your situation. You might also want to take a look at motorcycle...

    Wheel parameters

I use ACAD for drawing up wheels too. I'm not aware of any dedicated wheel designing software. I normally make two and three-piece rims from .190 6061 which are first spun, then heat treated, then trued and the spigot hole cut and then a final heat treat. Centres can easily be sand cast in the...

Will a seal wear aluminium noticeably?

Thanks for all the responses. I particularly like the idea of pressing on something like a stainless steel Speedi Sleeve. I hadn't even thought of that, and I've used them to repair worn shafts in the past!

    Wheel parameters

That's basically what BBS, Symmonds, Image, Kodiak etc do. The centres are either cast/machined or billet/machined. It means that just a few standard rim shells can be used to produce a multitude of sizes and offsets, which can be further fettled by front-mounting, sandwiching, or back mounting...

Will a seal wear aluminium noticeably?

The part is a spacer between a wheel drive flange and a bearing, and is only there for the seal to run on. It just seems a pity to make it out of carbon or stainless steel and add to the unsprung weight. It will be entirely within the seal, but the whole hub will be subject to average road dirt...

Will a seal wear aluminium noticeably?

I am working on some elements of a hub which I would prefer to make out of aluminium (probably 6063) to reduce the weight of non-stressed parts. One of the items is a spacer on which a TC seal runs. Will the seal wear the aluminum? Should the aluminium be anodised to prevent wear? If so, what...

What grade for aluminium brake discs?

The originals are still fine after a lot of hard use. I just want to make new discs with a different PCD to fit new aluminium hubs.

What grade for aluminium brake discs?

I want to have new aluminium discs water cut to my own size and pattern, but I do not know what grade of aluminium to use. The maker of the original discs was very guarded, only commenting that I should not use 7076. The discs only see low heat and the pads are Poly Matrix Q ceramic compound...

Acetal on acetal bearing. Will it work?

I have been offered a quantity of surplus acetal top hat style bushes that I am considering using for suspension pivots. The drawback is, the ID is quite large and I do not want to use a large internal steel bush because they will weigh too much. For lightness, can I use acetal for the internal...
