Thanks OGMetEng,
I had read that thread, but thanks for responding.
I was looking for information, such as, comparison of harden ability, core hardness, cast ability, cost, corrosion resistance.
Thanks again,
Billy
We have a customer purchasing investment cast valve for recip pump valves in 8620, case hardened to 55-60Rc and wants to consider Chinese 20CrMnTi instead, to the same specs. Does anyone have experience with this material. How does it compare? Recommendations?
JSBC International, Inc.
I received an investment casting, suppose to be 8620 steel, case hardened to 60Rc.
The chemical analysis showed the material to be as follows:
C = .40
Si = .3
Mn = .65
P = .014
S = .010
Cr - .86
Mo - <.01
Ni - .04
Fe = Remainder
Can someone tell me what this material might be?

I have placed an order in China for a forging in 1020 steel.
The Chinese supplier has offered to make the samples in what he calls: 20CrMoTi since the samples are only a small quantity. Once approved, they will by a production run of 1020 or Chinese #20 steel.
What is 20CrMoTi steel and how...
I have a drawing of that calls out the following material. Can someone explain to me in English what this material is?

Thanks so much uncleyd,
The part is a mud pump piston subject to significant pressure and stress. It will be urethane coated after forging. Production quantities are 4000. Machining from bar stock is an option, but way to expensive for an aftermarket consumable wear part like this piston...
What standard or normal surface finish can be expected of a 1020 Steel forging of a simple shape. See attached drawing. Also, what dimensional tolerance could be expected, ie -+ .XXX etc.
What is the difference between silicon and water glass in an investment casting. The water glass method seems to be much cheaper and poorer surface finish. Secondly, what is the the Investment cast process that yields the best surface finish and closest to "near net shape" . The parts are...
IVP, thanks for the great input. The part is a piston for a mud pump. The entire OD will be coated with Urethane. So, the strength of a forging is needed. The customer is currently machining from bar at a high cost. Quantities are 3600 per sized of 4 sizes per year. So, a forging, nearest...
Great and thanks for your input. A followup question: if it is hot forged, and there is flash and it's cleaned, can a closer tolerance be held in the cleaning process, i.e. +or-0.050?, or do I miss-understand the cleaning process. A second question: what is the most cost effective process to...
Could someone give me a simple description of AL 6061 and the significance of the T numbers and if I'm buying it in a machined state, what to watch for or be careful of.
I am attempting to supply customers this metal in a machined state in various shapes,i.e. flats, rounds, shapes.
Thanks for...
I have a specification for Steel 1144 FRP 280-330 BHN, for use in making a Pinion Blank. Can somebody enlighten me as to the use and properties of this steel.
Any help would be appreciated.
