    GX40CrNiSi20.14 surface problem

Thanks arunmrao. I didn't try with sodium silicate system, it doesn't look possible with my current moulding system. I have some concerns from IPA, now looking for a place with gas chromatography to test IPA.

    GX40CrNiSi20.14 surface problem

Also i tried heat treating today, water quench from 1050C. Nothing changed.

    GX40CrNiSi20.14 surface problem

It is a phenolic resin system, silica sand is used in the mould. Zr coating is applied, solvent is isopropyl alcohol (IPA).

    GX40CrNiSi20.14 surface problem

Hello everyone, I have a problem on my casting surface, which I never experienced before. Cast material specification is GX25CrNiSi20.14. In the as cast condition; after machining, a surface appeared like in the picture below. The order is cast in 4 melt charges. All charges have the...

    Nitrogen alloyed Hadfield steel

Thanks arunmrao, i will try Ti+Va.

    Nitrogen alloyed Hadfield steel

I am not using a grain refiner, my melting practice is using 50% scrap, deoxidize with 0,1% Al then Argon purging for 1 to 2 minutes.

    Nitrogen alloyed Hadfield steel

arunmrao- i'm studying for cone crushers. We use 18%Mn, 1,2%C steel for that parts but our customer claims that they get %20 to %40 longer lifetime with different suppliers. I thought they've done some special treatment like pre-hardening or N, Ti, Nb alloying but I analyzed those castings and...

    Nitrogen alloyed Hadfield steel

Thanks for the valuable answers, EdStainless- I haven't worked with pre hardening methods like explosive hardening. But i've had some lab trials like heating the austenitized steel to 650C, hold for 8 hours, furnace cool and get some pearlite within the grains and some in the boundaries. Then...

    Nitrogen alloyed Hadfield steel

Hi, I am working on increasing the lifetime of abrasion resistant parts manufactured with Hadfield steel ( austenitic manganese steel ). I've read some articles about nitrogen gas purging into the melt while alloying with Ti or Nb which produces hard carbides and nitrides inside the austenitic...

    Gx8CrMoAlSi18.3 heat treatment problem

I am having a problem with mechanical properties of GX8CrMoAlSi18.3 alloy which contains 0.09% C, 1.00% Si, 0.80% Mn, 18% Cr, 3% Mo, 1% Al. I need to get tensile strength Values above 500 N/mm2, but i only got 320 max. Any comments about the heat treatment will be pleased. Thank you...

Cast steel wear parts as a ceramic composite

I am also interested in this topic and working on this for some time. I compacted the ceramic particles with sodium silicate in the form of a honeycomb then sintered it. The problem is anchoring the ceramic inserts on the sand mould. It breaks and floats during casting. Did you get any...

Gas problems with CA-15 Stainless Steel

I've supplied ferrosilicozircon. Ln the article metengr posted it says zircon should be added %0,2 after deoxidation with aluminum to remove the nitrogen in the melt. I usually add aluminum during tapping, if i add ferrosilicozircon after tapping, would it be effective or what do you suggest?

Gas problems with CA-15 Stainless Steel

I am having gas porosity problems with CA-15 type stainless steel castings and can't find a way to prevent. I have this problem both in resin bonded and clay bonded sand moulds. During solidification i observe expansion on the feeders and after breaking the feeders porosities appear on the...
