    Thickness of shell elements

Hello all, I have a question about an error that I am receiving with regard to the thickness of shell elements (S4R). here is the error: ***WARNING: In step 1, some facet thicknesses for general contact were reduced from the parent element or specified values due to a large thickness compared...

    location of Abaqus environment file

Hello all! I am wondering if there is a way to check the location of the environment file that Abaqus is reading. I know where the env file is in the site folder but I do not think that Abaqus is reading this file. I have been using a modified env file to run user subroutines through ssh...

    interior elements won't deform

    sorry here is the inphttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=d00378be-3cc7-4a1a-9522-51d75349f500&file=fixed_plate_13feb13.inp

    interior elements won't deform

Hello all, I am currently running a simulation I use two rigid plates to deform a solder sphere. I have used Abaqus/Explicit to run this simulation and chose a time step small enough to run the simulation in a decent ammount of time. When I open the odb file a warning pops up that says...

    Contact condition pressure loads

Hello all, I am looking to impose a pressure load on two sides of a flat circle made of shell elements in Abaqus. This is done to model a manufacturing process for single ply composites. when one side of the composite comes in contact with another surface I would like the pressure BC on that...

    pressure clamping BC

Hello all, I am currently modeling a manufacturing process similar to metal hydro-forming but with composites. The composite (modeled using shell elements) is held between two dies with equal fluid pressure on both faces. A male punch is traversed onto the surface of the composite. When the...

    Issue with time scaling

Finally got it to work! I guess the sphere was rotating between the two plates I applied a roughness interaction property so that the sphere would not move as the plates were displaced and the simulation worked! Thanks for the advise compositesFEAguru. Nick

    Issue with time scaling

I did use this method for applying my boundary condition. I applied a ramp amplitude to a displacement BC. The net effect should be a constant velocity displacement over the time period of the step. I am still having the same issue however. Thanks, Nick

    Issue with time scaling

Thanks for the reply! I tried changing the velocity BC to a disp BC. I re-ran the simulation and when I went to check displacement the same message came up "results for the current deformed variable are not available for one or more nodes contained in the model. deformations at such nodes are...

    Issue with time scaling

Hello, I am currently having an issue with a relatively simple simulation. I am attempting to deform a small solder sphere between two rigid plates in Abaqus explicit. I fixed one plate and applied a velocity boundary condition to the other I started off having an issue where the simulation...
