I agree with the solution of drilling thought the floor and lengthen the trap.
One last point, in a unit with multiple drains each drain will often need to be piped with a separate trap. This is due to each section of the unit being under different pressure.

I find that plumbing is more of a hands on science.
You are correct in that cleanouts, drains, etc. can be placed anywhere vs. what the code stipulates.
However, tradesman and not engineers have pulled and cleared these 'problems'. The engineer may do a good job in layout...

A company called DryKor makes a unique ‘dry conditioning’ unit. The units are typically for applications such as swimming pools, ice rinks, locker rooms, etc. but this may be good application.
