Got a quick question, I have read this somewhere but cant find it again, arggg. We have a situation where a single 1 1/2" hose valve is against a fire rated wall. The owner wants another hose valve and the other side of the wall, and I believe you can connect to the existing piping and supply the additional hose valve in that situation, but I cannot find where is states that.

Thanks for the help.

What exactly does the owner want it for?

Is this hose valve provided as a 13 or 14 application?

This is an NFPA 13 situation, the owner installed a new wall right against the existing 1 1/2" hose valve, and wants an additional hose valve on the other side of the wall. My guess is there isnt access from one side to the other.

May not be needed any more or in that location

And it is not also a 2 1/2 inch connection ??

Might just talk to the ahj to see if they still require it.

What type of occupancy is this??

cdafd, I dont think it is needed, it is only a 1 1/2" connection not 2 1/2", occupancy is storage.

Like I stated above I think you can add another hose valve to the existing line on the other side of the wall, but only in that situation.

High piled storage???

Chemical storage ??

It appears you have a Horizontal Exit and if your project is governed by either the Life Safety Code or the International Building Code, the a Class I standpipe (2 1/2 inch valve) is required on both side of the wall. The wall is required to be constructed as a Fire Wall, which allows the building to be treated as two separate buildings for the purposes of measuring egress travel distance.
