I'm finishing a print to be sent out for manufacturing, it has an odd thread on it: 1-24tpi, it will be single pointed on a cnc lathe. Should I callout the major/minor/pitch diameters?

If the thread is defined by a standard, then no.
If the thread is a custom thread for your application, then yes and include the full description of the tooth form, angles, radii, etc.

I would just because thats how I am.
but most engineers do not. sorry to say.

all the below is optional!!!!
is it a large qty?
do you have thread gages? gaes helps prevent from diffrences in using thread wires.

does receiving inspect have to calculate meas. over three wires?
do you have the same wires as the vendor, or does the vendor have gages?
especially odd ball specials

I am reviewing the ANSI B1.1 and I do not observe this Threads per Inch.

finally found it in my Machinery's Handbook...

its 1-24UNS-2A, and per looslib, I'm just going to call out using that standard. If they call I can give them the numbers right away anyway.

Nick

Or you could actually follow the relevant standard.:)

faq404-1480

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)
What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484

Kenat- Thanks, I'll be revising the print this afternoon....

Nick

Yeah, I do for both Box and Pin, every thread. On the Pin, I also give the three wire measure. That's just me, a particular habit. Can honestly say that shops love it.
