1010 CQ STEEL SHEET CHEM. COMPOSITION

We recently received a chemical composition report on 1010 steel we are using in one of our products. All of the element wt %'s are within spec, but there is also 0.010% Si, and 0.056% Al, which are not specified. The remainder of 99.385% Fe is also in spec. What impact will these additional elements have on the properties, specifically formability, weld heat affected zone properties, and fatigue life (endurance limit)?

This is essentially an aluminum killed steel. With proper processing and process annealing heat treatment enhanced deep drawing capability should be expected.

Flat-rolled steel is deoxidized (killed) using either silicon or aluminum. As stanweld mentioned, Al-killed steels typically possess better deep drawing properties than Si-killed steels. Si is allowed to be present in carbon steels up to 0.35%, but obviously is only present at an impurity level in your steel. Neither of the elements will degrade the weldability or fatigue properties in the concentrations given.
