12 Volt Hydraulic unit

I’ve had this crazy idea to use my Polaris ranger as a tractor so to speak. I have a few acres to mow instead of purchasing a tractor or zeroturn I’ve seen a company called promanpto that offers “kits” to adapt an engine driven hydraulic pump and also front mounted finish mowers and rough cutters. Like any good ole boy would do I’m wanting to save a few buck by buying a 3 point finish mower converting it to be mounted on my Polaris. I’ve found the ideal motor and adpter to go from the motor to pto. Next would be powering the hydraulics I’m really consider using a 12 volt self contained unit.

My biggest question would be is if I chose this route would the electric motor of the pump burn up from continuous running. Basically using the unit as my live hydraulics.

I’m also thinking about making my own 3 point hitch system on the rear to implement box blade

I doubt those motor/pump units will deliver enough horsepower. And, generally, those dc motors are not rated for continuous duty.

Well based on your attached links you're seriously short of hydraulic power.

Your motor takes 11 GPM but your pump puts out only 1.4 GPM. So you would need 8 of them in parallel....

Also one pump takes 233 A at 12V (2.8kW)(scroll down to the Q&A section) That's a BIG cable for a continuous operation. Also your normal alternator only provides 60A so it'll take a LOT of spare batteries to give you any length of duty.

There's a reason why most hydraulic power units are fed off the main engine drive....

Thanks for the advice might bite the bullet and buy the hydraulic unit but use an old mower

Can really use that too hilly and bumpy really have the idea to turn my Polaris basically into a tractor
 
Just looked up what a Polaris ranger was - guess I should have done that at the start. I thought it was just a standard 4X 4 jeep type vehicle....

Can't see that having enough power to do any mowing myself, but guess you can see what it can do better than me. It just won't be a standalone DC hydraulic unit...

Get three or four electric mowers with small blades on the order of a foot. These are efficient because you don't over speed the ends of the blade trying to spin the inside of the blade fast enough. Simple to hook-up and controllable. If one has an issue you still have a bench other blades to ger'done. All electric. Why do you need any other hydraulics? Height and angle?
