Dear NACE Corrosion Network Members,
In 2008, the Australasian Corrosion Association (ACA) won the bid to host the 18th International Corrosion Congress. Held every three years by various host countries, the International Corrosion Congress is the major event of the International Corrosion Council (ICC), an international body founded to advance corrosion science and engineering.
Call for Papers are now open and the ACA looks forward to welcoming the international corrosion community to Perth, Australia in November 2011 for the 18th International Corrosion Congress.
A dedicated website has been developed for the 18th International Corrosion Congress. Please refer to this website for further congress information and updates.
Call for Papers
Critical dates for acceptance of abstracts and papers are:
Close of Abstracts: 30th November 2010
Acceptance of Papers: 28th February 2011
Receipt of Papers: 31st May 2011
Please refer to for further call for papers details and to submit a
200–300 word summary of your proposed paper by the close of abstracts.
A sidestream forum, to be coordinated by myself is "Management of corrosion by Human factors".
Some of the topics that can be suggested to be included in this workshop/forum are:
What model of corrosion consulting works best? Do we need to have our own “in-house” CM departments or do we need to recruit and out-source consultants?
What have been the impact of global recession on the brain drag of corrosion experts and technologists in Australia and the USA? comparing approaches and strategies.
How can research organisations like universities be made more feasible/efficient in dealing with industry needs about corrosion? Knowing and suggesting the mechanisms.
What was the main strategy of industry in Australia in dealing with application of CM into their projects under recession conditions? How did the world respond and how did we?
A discussion about having centres of excellence on corrosion research: a sum-up of the total contribution of Australian universities to solving corrosion problems: have we just increased the number of graduates ?
The role of “industrial nepotism”: how it helps, how it destroys.
What are our plans in Australian corrosion community to deal with corrosion problems of the future power plants? Do we know about corrosion problems occurring in a solar power plant as we do about oil and gas pipelines?
How did the US DoD manageto have an office for dealing with corrosion: learning lessons and tactics.
What is the best practical strategy to deal with corrosion –related disasters: pros and cons of openly discussing it or following a “hush-hush” policy.

Please send your abstracts about these topics (as well as other related topics) to the address given above.

Regards,

Dr. Reza Javaherdashti
