From what I am told, in 1996 some electrode mfg's went to the ASME code stating they could not meet the mechanical requirements for a E9018 and others could. So the code was changed stating that the E9018 can now be used and called an E8018.
Well, the electrode suppliers who were able to meet the code originally for the E9018 mechanical requirements renamed the product E8018, but state on the data sheet with the electrodes that it meets the SFA 5.5 and E9018 specifications.
What have others done who's old WPS's spec E9018 and the only welding rod, the E8018 (that meets the E9018 spec) is available? If some of you could let me know how you handled this issue, I would be very appreciative.
