2.3 quad 4 swap

Is is possible to swap a 2.3L Quad 4 dohc engine, vin code d with a 2.3L Quad 4 dohc High output engine vin code A? The car is a 1991 pontiac grand am with an automatic trans. I removed the vin code D engine from this car and installed the h.o. engine. Everything went smooth and everything hooked up fine, but after all was done the car wont start. It has spark, the fuel injector rail fills up and pressureizes, but it won't fire up??????????? If i give it a quck shot of starting fluid through the throttle body, it will fire very briefly...... any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like theres something different in the control scheme between the two engines. Have you read up on them to determine the differences?
air flow sensor? injector types?

I'm sure the HO unit would use a different computer (ECU).
I wonder what other differences there are? Jay Maechtlen

 

I hope you changed out the ECU for the new motor... if nots thats most likly the problem
