thought some one else might benifit from this i wrote it all up so here is how you do it

REDEFINE 2 BLOCKS TO 1

Materials:
3 Blocks: BLK1, BLK2, & BLK3

BLK1&2 are basically the same block only difference is that they have different insertion points, and may be at different rotations where in the drawing they should both be the same block. The end result is what BLK 3 looks like and maybe you have some changes to add as well.
Notes: before you begin make sure of the following
A. That if BLK 1 & 2 are on a layer different than that you wish them to be or if they are on that layer you must place BLK 3 on that layer as well
B. That all the blocks have the objects contained within on layer 0 and a color set bylayer unless otherwise desired.

1. Make a Copy of BLK1, BLK2, & BLK3 so that you have 1 of BLK1, & BLK2 , And that you have 2 OF BLK 3
2. Now move rotate edit BLK 3 To appear Like BLK1, or BLK2 such properties as Scale, Layer, Rotation.
3. Make a block and call it (depending on which BLK Block you are going to do first) BLK 1 if it resembles BLK1 and make sure you pick the same base point for use as the insertion point.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each block you need to make the same.
5. After redefining the block isolate the layer they are on and explode; this turns all the BLK1, & BLK2 blocks inserted in the drawing turn to BLK3 now just do a purge and you can get ride of the old BLK blocks that are not necessary.
if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

Thanks Shadow. Looks like a good candidate subject for FAQ too.
