Please see the attached sketch as this may get confusing...
I have a sheetpile wall (SP-1) behind an existing bridge abutment wing and beyond. Behind the wing, I'm relying on the the wing to act as a waler for SP-1 per my very experienced bosses recommendation). Beyond the wing SP-1 is a 15ft tall cantilevered wall. To get to the top of the drilled shaft elevation (D.S.) for construction, we're installing a short 3ft tall wall (SP-2) perpendicular to SP-1.
Question 1 - How do I consider the lateral earth pressure effects on SP-2 from SP-1? One of my supervisors has told me that the passive resistance in front of SP-1 will create an increase in active pressure behind SP-2 but he can't find his reference for guidance on how to quantify it. We believe its related to poisson's effects.
Question 2 - at the dredge line of SP-2 in front of the wingwall there will be interaction between the passive pressures in front of SP-2 and SP-1. How do I quantify that? I was thinking use a reduced Kp for each wall that has a resultant Kp equal to that of the soil.
