Hi,
Just curious, why has no one tried a 2 stroke in F1? I assume that now the rules would prohibit it, but for many years the specific power of the 500cc GP bikes have been quite a bit higher than the 3000cc 4 strokes. Nearly 200 hp from a 500 would have made an awesome 3000 even taking into account scaling losses. Or do they not scale well?
Thanks for you opinions,
Bob

The ideal would be 2-stroke turbo charger, but I suspect the rules are so tight now that little real creativity is possible. I lost interest in formula 1 when active suspension and turbos were outlawed. Good competition, but not so technically interesting...

Current rules dictate 4 strokes with 10 round cylinders. I don't know the history of rule restrictions, but that may be part of it. Often, when radical changes were introduced, the rule makers reacted quickly. WOuld certainly have struggled in terms of fuel consumption. I would have loved to have seen, say, a 12 cylinder, 3 litre, 2 stroke with exansion chambers sticking out everywhere, lol.
