All,
I know there's a lot of threads on this but have to ask this one more time, so here we go.....

We are currently on SW2003 and PDMworks2003 and planning on making the move to 2004 in the next month or so. This is due to Advance Training starting next week and found out training will be done in the 2004 software. Question, can we have both versions loaded at the same time? What I was thinking on have both versions loaded, and just switch over to 2004 when all software is loaded and everyone’s trained. Then when we go into full production we’ll toggle over to PDMworks2004. What do you think?

Happy Friday the 13th![3eyes]

You can't run SW04 with PDMworks 03. You can't run SW03 with PDMworks 04. You have to run SW03 with PDM03 and SW04 with PDM04. - Unless some found away around this.

You can have both SW03 and SW04 on one system as long as you use different directories. SW04 files are not compatiable with SW03 but SW03 files can be opened in SW04. But by having them both on there, you will have the problem of PDMworks.

So in my Opinion you should install it on everyones machines and let them test it out before you go into production with it. But keep in mind you can't use the PDMworks03 with SW04.

I agree with Scott. But I would try 04 on one PC first to make sure everything is OK. I installed 04 in a different folder than 03, but still had limited problems. If you open a SW file within Win Explorer, it will open with the last SW version that was opened. I played with having both version several different ways, and concluded it is best to upgrade to 04 from the beginning...don't keep 03.
I hope I made some sense. :)

Scott and Ctopher,
I have both Office 2003 and Office 2004 loaded on my PC at work and on my laptop and had no problems thus far. Hey were loaded as separtate installs and and have the latest service packs loaded on both. I guess my question was should I uninstall or Office 2003 from everyones PC when Installing Office 2004? I don't think that's the way to go. I thinking just leaving both versions on everyones PC or would there any conflicts down the road? Also, I know that PDM2004 is only compatible with SW2004.

Scott,
FYI, you wrote "You can't run SW03 with PDMworks 04" in your last thread. The answer is yes you can. We had PDMworks 2004 running with SW2003 for about a month until the a major bug was found in the new release (which was fixed in SP1) and had to switch back to PDMworks 2003. It was a big pain in the butt but didn't have much data in the vault yet, due to the company being new to Solidworks.

Have a great weekend!

Our experience her is, some pc's work with SW04/PDM03....some don't. Just less headaches keep the same versions on all.

A SW2003 user can use SW2004 without going into any training. He may not take advantage of all the added functionality right from the beginning but all the features in SW2003 are still there. My opinion is switch averybody at once to SW2004 and as they finish their training they will start using SW2004 at full capacity.
