2003 - save as dwg problem

Hi,

Does any one have problems with 2003 when they save as dwg and the
blocks with linked text do not come in correctly? Example: instead of
the block saying what the file name of the part is it comes in as the
link ... "sw-file name". My var says it is an autocad problem but I do
not believe them as it works fine in 2001 & 2001+.

I just did the same thing in 2003 and the properties came through fine.

Your VAR is FOS. It can't be an AutoCAD problem, as AutoCAD is only reading the final translated file.

We're on SP1.0. Now I'm afraid to upgrade.

What are your settings in the "Save As" options? I am saving to R14, which is our ACAD release. Maybe try that.

Are you the FV Tool in Kaukauna (the Hawaiian-named city in Wisconsin)?

I've tried adjusting every option there is one a time in many combinations with out luck.

Yep, we are the one in Kaukauna, but it's a native american name not Hawaiian, too bad if it was Hawaiian it might be a liitle warmer around here.

Can you throu together a "scratch" file that does the same thing? Just a single extrusion in a part file thrown into a drawing with a linked note. It doesn't have to be pretty, as long as the behavior repeats.

I got your files from the SW to AutoCAD Block Attribute issue. I am currently using SW 2003sp2.1 and ACAD 2000. The Attribute thing looks to me like it has the right data strings in AutoCAD. I attached the "data" from an ACAD "List" command at the bottom...

The Attribute from SW appears as some "stairs" in AutoCAD, though. Each Attribute line of text is indented or tabbed to be starting right below the end point of the previous line, like this

BUT, strange thing is the Preview Pane in ACAD shows the drawing as it SHOULD appear.

My take is that it has something to do with your block definition. Maybe try writing a new block definition from scratch.

What happens to your notes that are not in blocks?
Would I be guessing correctly that the block is used like an extended BOM balloon to identify die components in a drawing?

I am not familiar with the use of the question mark in your block definition. It turns into a number (1) when the block is finalized. Do enlighten me, please.

That did it, I created a new block & "presto" it works... must be magic.

Yep, it's like an extended bom. Some of our customers want multiple parts per sheet, so this identifies each part.

the ? is one I manually fill in, I use it for the detail number & qaunity. example part# abcd-001, abcd-002.. I repalce the ? with 001 or 002 etc. I could not find a way to link this to work showing only the -000.
