I can open a drawing template but I can not get a model into the drawing. I searched around everywhere and the only thing that I found was a message in the feature tree saying that I can right click in hte drawing window and select "insert from file", but this selection does not exist. I am returning from a year away from SW at my new job, with an old release that we had but no one ever used.

Thanks!

supercub,

Your answer is easily found in, and you would be much better served, if you would go through the SWX Help and especially the excellent tutorials.

Open the part and click the "new" icon and select "make drawing from part/assembly" You need to have your formats/drwdots in place and in paths, too.
Otherwise with the model loaded, start a new drawing and 'insert/drawing view/model" then select.
Congrats on the new job, btw.
I recently upgraded an old employer's system and even though tech support had expired they were willing to help me with the latest version and service pack that the old tech support was qualified for. Call you old VAR and ask nicely.

Thanks!
I did figure it out with some playing around. I don't get the new- create dwg from part/assy like I was used to. I have to select new- dwg and my template opens. Then I hit the 3-view icon. I go back to the model and click at the top of the tree and return to the dwg. I finally get my 3 views. I have to call the tech guys for service packs, I knew them well from my past job and took courses with them. Just happy to have it after not using for a year, even if the version is ancient.

You can always tile the view so the drawing and part are both in view... then drag the part into the drawing.
