We recently installed 2004. I'm using a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer. The batteres are re-chargeable (NiMH) & charged.

Occasionally, the mouse won't respond to any input (LMB or RMB). I can still move the cursor. I don't recall for sure about input from the wheel - I think it stops too.
I have a "real" mouse plugged in too. When my Intellimouse balks on me - I can switch to the cheap one & it works. Then I can close all my files, open them back up & everything's OK - until the next time.

What is happening here?

This may or may not be related. I was having major trouble with false double clicks with a corded Intellimouse.
I switched to a cordless Logitech MX700 but had to give it up as it seemed to be too imprecise for quick picks in SWX. It seems like the very slight lag in communication coupled with the 4X greater mass made it much harder to land on my targets. I am back to a new corded Intellimouse. My cord style Intellimouse at home which has seen much less duty started doing the false double click trick and then the LMB quit entirely. Look at the back of the mouse and see where they are made!

I have noticed my middle wheel button even when assigned as zoom will sometimes work and sometimes not. Usually i have to maually select the zoom command then it will work till i move on to other view commands.

I had a cordless Logitech mouse and had some similar imprecision problems. There was a setting I found deep in the Logitech driver settings that had something to do with sampling cycles/second. I cranked it up quite a bit and it seemed to help somewhat--but still not quite what I wanted.

I then bought a no-name corded optical mouse for $6.00 at Fry's Electronics. Believe it or not, I like this mouse much better. The optics allow for great precision and the cord allows high sample rates without worrying about conserving battery power.

There are some higher-performance (high sample rate) mouse models out there aimed at the gamer market. They boast the high sample rate on the packaging. If you want to stay cordless, you may want to check these out.

My middle mouse-button zoom doesn't work properly when Toolbox is open/active/added in. With several mouses (mice?), I've narrowed the problem to Toolbox. To fix the problem, I un-add-in Toolbox and restart SW. Annoying, but at least I get zoom back with my $6.00 mouse.

I have had this happen in the past, and again just yesterday when I was trying SW 2004. I use an Intellimouse Optical. The scroll wheel default should be: Hold down scroll wheel, moving mouse rotates view of model. Rolling scroll button should zoom in/out.

When this is not the case, open the mouse utility and find the wheel troubleshooter function. Follow the directions and this should fix the problem for good.

Done the troubleshooter - no help there.
We just bought some new PCs - I'm supposed to get mine today. Hopefully I won't have the same problems.

BTW - the latest drivers for the Intellimouse has fewer capabilities than the previous. Specifically, the different settings for different software. So, I "reverted" back to the previous version - 4.something. Maybe there are some issues with SolidWorks 2004 & my mouse drivers. That's what I expected to have confirmed by this post.
