I am wondering if anyone has seen a conservator silicon dessicant breather excessively bubble. Where I am working there are 3 24 to 33 MVA oil filled transformers in operation. All 3 were found with wet (pink) silicon in the breather. The dessicant and oil were all cleaned and changed with new. 2 transformers are operating normally. However 1 started bubbling continuously and blew out about a couple of spoons full of oil through the dessicant breather, and has been bubbling ever since. This particular transformer lifted the Pressure Relief Device a few months ago. The cause assumed to be a clogged breather. The silicon beads were found pink, wet, and gelatinous at that time. There are no pressure/vacuum gauges, oil level in the conservator is normal, temperatures are normal, and DGA and tank oil sample test results came back with no warnings.
