I have a 120vac to 24vdc transformer that will output 4.5 amps. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to step this down to 12vdc at 4.5 amps max. The current draw is not allways at 4.5, sometimes it is lower. Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Expensive way is to use a 24V / 12V DC-DC converter. Cheap way is to use a standard 120V AC - 12V DC power supply and bypass the existing power supply. DC-DC converters are normally much more expensive than an equivalent AC/DC power supply.

Why not just buy a 120vac to 12vdc (5 amp)convertor.
You can pick one up for around 40 bucks easily...

or just get a 24vdc to 12vdc convertor.. again cheap..

mcgyvr,
Can you point me to a web site where I can pick up a $40 120vac-12vdc with 5 amp capacity? I have not seen one that cheap, but I'm probably not looking in the right place...
