Hello. I am happy to have found this site! This is going to be an elementary question for most of you: I am considering purchasing a 2 acre parcel with a new well on it. It states the well is 25 gpm. We want to build a 3500 square foot home, landscape about an acre, and have fruit/nut trees on the rest. Is 25 gpm a good well? Is that ample water for our needs? or is that a slow well? What is considered a "healthy" amount of water, and what is considered a "low" amount of water? What is the scale and where does 25 gpm fall? Thanks a lot! Kristi

You didn't state where you are in the world or how arid the location is. Off the top of my head I would think that 25gpm would suffice, but to answer your question you need to figure out what your water needs are. You should also check if there are local codes.

Some household figures for the USA
Shower: 2-7gpm
toilet flush: <-1980, 4.5-7 gallons
1980-92, 3.5 gallons
1993->, 1.1-1.6 gallons
average of 4 times per day per person
dishwasher: 5-15 gallons
clothes washer: old, 40-55 gallons
energy star, 18-25 gallons
sink: 0.5-5 gpm
US average: 60-100 gallons of water per person per day

As for the fruit/nut trees I have no experience. Ask some of the older locals - they are usually more than happy to share their experiences. If in the US, check with your local Ag extension office.

25 GPM is considered a pretty good well, for any residential purposes, even small hobby farming.

I have to put this into units I understand:

25 Gpm = 1.8 l/sec = 155 m3/day. Evapotranspiration 8mm say 70 m3/day - houshold 5m3/day. NO PROBLEM.

You have plenty for houshold and irrigation, But is 25 gpm sustainable 24 hrs/7 days/week. You will need to run at 25 gpm for up to 12 hours a day at peak.
