2D Layout for 3D Design vs sketch

[CAD2015]

Hi,
I am learning (and create a practical application of it...) the 2D layout for 3D design workbench.
What is the difference between 2D Layout for 3D Design design and the regular design creation, using the Sketch workbench?.................
What would be the benefits of using 2D Layout for 3D Design?
From the outside, it looks very nice, but I am interested more in the practical application of it.....
