In my day to day design I would realy like to be able to do a simple 2D ray trace inside NX. I have found a GRIP routine ray_trace.grx that gives me the start of what could be a useful tool but needs some work to make it truly useful
I now the are fully featured Optical simulation tools available, but none intergrate directly into NX.
I have access to an optical designer who can carry out full simulations, but it still would be useful to do a basic ray trace to check things before sending files to another system
What I would like is to be able to do is the following based on the GRIP routine
Define Lens or Mirror
Pick Origin point
Pick first surface
Define Refractive index (only for Lens)
Pick second surface (only for Lens)
Pick Plane
Define required number of rays required
Define ray offset type, angular or parallel
Define offset value X° or distance
Define Ray length in mm past second surface
Run !
then be able to adjust the surfaces and rerun with the option of keeping the original rays but changing the colour or replacing
Has any one got any suggestions of how to proceed ?
